I was there: My perspective on bowe bergdahl

Here's what I got from the article - he wasn't "there"

he was near there. as a contractor - or as i like to call them, a piece of shit mercenary.

and he doesn't offer any new insight or evidence, he just offers his two cents based on the exact same information that everyone else has.

so why is his obviously partisan opinion worth anything again?
every guy who actually was there may have an opinion that you would call partisan.....so are their opinions worthless too?....

If they don't kiss Obama's ass...yes.

The war in Afghanistan is a bogus war because the CIA trained the Mujaheddin in guerrilla tactics learned from studying the Viet Cong. The plan was to create a Vietnam-style quagmire for the USSR to drain resources and morale as long as the occupation lasted.

Russia invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and withdrew in defeat ten years later. The US is now 13 years in Afghanistan and no closer to victory than the Soviets were. Why? Because the CIA trained the Mujaheddin to fight a prolonged guerrilla war against a more powerful invading force.

The war was lost in 1979.

we have been bit on the ass by many people we thought would be our "friends" after helping them.....so now that we got that out of the way.....now were you one of the 10% who felt we should not have gone into Afghanistan?......what should we have done?.....shake our fists at them and say..."darn it you guys....stop it!".....
Terrorist-lovers like KNB would bend over and ask them pretty please to lube up first, but it's really it's okay if they don't.

Abu Ghraib was soldiers committing crimes you idiot. what did bush lie about?
I was there in Baghdad when that stuff happened; THE ONLY LIES were you left-wing losers trying to say Bush ordered all that

ur a joke
Yes, they actually think Bush called the prison and ordered the torture.

There's an old Russian Saying- the fish rots at the head.

If these guys at Abu Grahib thought torturing prisoners was an okay thing to do, it was largely because you had a command structure that told them it was acceptable.

Clearly, we lost the Iraq War at Abu Grahib. After that, the Iraqis weren't interested in anything we had to offer.
And another terrorist-lover chimes in.

I WAS THERE: MY PERSPECTIVE ON BOWE BERGDAHL
A few days ago, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel took the stage at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan and excitedly started with what he thought would be a big applause line. “We got him back!” he exclaimed.

Silence.

Not. Even. One. Clap.

Numerous White House leaks show that Obama and his team were convinced that Americans would greet the news of a returning POW with elation; that this would be the great moment in ObamaÂ’s second term. This shows just how clueless they are about the military. Let me clue them in.

You see, when Hagel took the stage, he expected joy at the announcement that one of their own was returned! However, you have to see inside a soldierÂ’s mind to understand what was going on here. I believe I can provide a little insight.

When a soldier deserts his post, when he writes that he is ashamed to be an American, when he gives the enemy secrets (and he did), he is no longer “one of us”. He is a traitor. He is not a brother-in-arms.

Soldiers risk their lives for each other every day on the battlefield, there is a trust and respect they have for each other. For Bowe Bergdahl to break that trust and the Secretary of Defense to announce a heroÂ’s welcome instead of a court-martial is a huge let-down.

He isn't one of their own. He is one of them. He is the enemy.

That's not something to celebrate.

The message the White House is sending is that they value treason more than honorable service.

And does that blog article have a video, perchance, to prove that there was not even one bit of applause when Hagel spoke and reportedly said "We got him back"?

And are you aware of US-military regulations regarding comportment of officers and enlisted personnel during a dignitary's visit, esp. a speech?

You do realize that every one of these kind of ceremonies is recorded, right?

Just throwing you a life-line, there...

Hint: I've seen the video.
Have you? He was applauded when he was introduced. There was a cheer when he said he was proud to have served. There was applause when Hagel recognized and thanked a group of Soldiers and all Soldiers' families.

“This is a happy day. We got one of our own back.” Silence.

Not saying he should be left behind. He should be brought home to face justice.

But trading him for 5 high-level terrorists, WHO HAVE ALREADY SAID THEY'RE GOING TO GO BACK TO KILL AMERICANS AND AFGHANIS, is colossally stupid.

We've had these guys for 12 years and oddly, never charged them with a crime.

some of them even tried to switch sides during our invasion.

Prosecutor says trial for 5 traded Taliban hard to do

Brig. Gen. Mark Martins said he concurred with a study conducted a few years ago that found prosecutors were unlikely to win convictions against about 200 detainees, including the five traded for Bergdahl. Republicans such as Sen. John McCain, of Arizona, have derided the swap, saying it will put U.S. troops at risk.

"I concluded there was not a successful prosecution to be made," Martins said.

Sunday's announcement indicates that the five Taliban probably would have to be released when, and if, the detention center here closes down, a pledge made by President Obama. Martins made the determination, he said, after reviewing the findings of the study and the files of each man.

War is not a matter for the court system, dumbass. Would you be happy if we simply killed them during capture?

So let's put this in perspective.

Republicans were all calling for Bergdahl's release. Until the Black Guy Did It.

It's one of those cases were Obama just can't win. He gets yelled at because he didn't get Bergdahl out and then he gets yelled at for getting him out.

I'd like to ask questions like how did a misfit like Bergdahl who washed out of COAST GUARD basic training get picked up by the Army?

POTUS failed to use the proper channels again.

Due to closed doors. Due to Obama.

And you guys are arguing after that most serious fact that is so much more important than Bergdahl.

Actually, no.

It's more complicated than that:

Sorting Murky Issues on the POW Swap

And POW exchanges are generally held behind closed doors.

There are only 3 facts we know for sure:

Bergdahl, an American soldier, was captured and held for 5 years by the Taliban.

Bergdahl was released in a prisoner swap.

Bergdahl is now back in the USA after being treated at Landshut Hospital in the BRD.

Anything else is absolute speculation.
You seem to be leaving out some facts.

I'm not believing anyone until all the final reports are disclosed. Bergdahl is a combat soldier who is innocent until proven otherwise. No rush to judgement...

BTW, where is the link to your OP?

...and yet everyone of you had Zimmerman hung before it ever went to trial.

You people are hypocritical hacks.

Really?

I didn't.

I said, over and over and over again: wait until the facts are out.

meh. You are boring.
Did you chastise those on the left who wanted to string him up?

Something tells me you didn't.

Hang Him.

The fact that that one person was briefed on what to say by the White House, and the fact that she also said he was captured on the battlefield.

Any other stupid questions?
She absolutely put the best light possible in her ''airing'' on world wide television...no question about it....

I would have done the same....

No, You wouldn't have. You're not a scumbag liar.

Bergdahl did not serve with "honor and distinction". He was not "captured on the battlefield". He abandoned his post and deserted his comrades. He's a coward.

Rice has proven to be a useful idiot that will read anything placed in front of her. She cannot be taken seriously.
no, i think I would have really done it, only to make the taliban think they gave up a soldier of worth, instead of the way it looks now, with you all saying he was a scumbag, even if he were a scumbag, I would not give the taliban the pleasure of knowing that right off the bat. let the military courts or system label him with what he deserves, down the road but not initially.

I am a wuss, (a dove, though I can appreciate those that are hawks, I just think we need a balance of the two), even if this young man is found to be a deserter, I still believe we needed to bring him home, (maybe this is some kind of mother instinct thing?)and would have made the deal for the 5 taliban men, because the war/ Mission in Afghanistan is coming to an end and GITMO has to close when the war is over, so these men would have been released anyway, per the law/rules and regs of war.

So, we got a fellow human being and citizen, returned home, for virtually nothing, since these 5 would have been released irregardless, when we pull boots out of Afghanistan and end the conflict.

The only potential controversy, is the President doing this without congress (since that new law was passed), IF he had the time to do so...and the executive branch has indicated that it was necessary for them to act quickly, so this is going to be a 'he said she said' only 'he said, he said' type thing...and in the end, nothing will be done about it, is my prediction....

Care

You can't have it both ways. I am sure that when Bergdahl is brought back his behavior will be closely examined by military courts who will make decisions as to what charges he should face. THAT, is not for you or me or the public to decide.

And the White House needs to stay out of it, too. I'm not going to hold my breath.
Now, as for the five prisoners who were traded, show me EXACTLY where "No one left behind" puts any restrictions on the number of prisoners traded.
To expand on the number of prisoners traded, are you so studid as to believe that the 5 al Qaida members will just be dropped off at some corner in Qatar and allowed to stroll off like some tourist? Are you really that stupid? I have absolutely no doubt that the Qatar government and the CIA will be on them like white on rice. Basically these five have targets on their backs the size of beach balls. I would not be a bit surprised if three or four of them die "accidental" deaths in the next year.
Well, aren't you gullible.

Are we ignoring the Veteran's Administration Scandal Yet???
Scorecards! Gitcher scorecards! Can't tell the Obama Administration's incompetent disasters without a scorecard!

Fully investigate WITHOUT the expected political interference from the White House, court martial, and punish him if found guilty.

What if Bergdahl has some real mental problems - before, during and after his capture by the Taliban? Would you assholes still want to hang him for treason?

BTW, what the hell is the military objective in Afghanistan?

If he had mental problems, how did he get into the military?

Oh, but wait, what if his reilgious sentiments changed and therefore his passive aggressive mental disorder reared its ugly head and he left his post and greeted the Taliban/Al Qaeda with open arms, then we have to send him to a shrink and pay for him to be fed and watered the rest of his life on the American Dime........um, NO!

Doesn't matter if he had mental problems, he could have went to medical and said he was depressed or whatever and he would have gotten treatment. He walked away from his post and there is no excuse for that. He put fellow US servicemen is danger by his actions. He is a deserter. Period.

Yeah, no one is afraid of the stigma of going on record as having mental problems. I wonder why so many suicides...

I presume you are familiar with the phrase
"No one left behind."
I have looked long and closely at that phrase. I do not see any conditions attached to it. Perhaps you could point out the conditions that say Bergdahl should be left behind.

Sure, but he didn't mind leaving his comrades behind. That was also unconditional. He simply left. Besides, 68% of vets would have much rather left him there to rot for his betrayal. The only opinions that matter here are of those that serve in the military, or who have served in the military. They distinctly outweigh any opinion you may have on the subject.
