I cant afford it in my wallet to vote for a democrat

Of course you can. If you're making 60-80k per year you actually can't afford not to vote Democrat. You actually don't make enough to benefit from the GOP's tax breaks that only help people making more than 250k per year.

The Republican party couldn't give any less of a fuck about you. They hate the middle class and are hell bent on making sure they disappear entirely.

Again I don't see it your way in my wallet, again I left chicago in 2004 to South Carolina..

In Chicago area (Schaumburg to be specific) I had a condo when I got married and a $800 month apartment when we split up...

I was making then $42,000 a year salary with a company car.

Today I own my own little home on a lake in South Carolina .. Just a stones throw away from Clemson.

Do you really think I don't yearn for to be up in Chicago today after the Cubbies won the world series? The democrats ran me away because I knew I couldn't live comfortable paying outrages taxes.

Shit, that's nothing. Try living in California. I would get pummeled with taxes every year. These days I get something of a mild tax break here in Nevada, but I still pay through the nose (cuz I'm self employed and make over 100k per year) but I still plan on moving back to liberal California, despite the truly insane cost of living and high taxes.
You sound like you have mental problems…

So you get it...so you are being honest now what do you get out of it? You like California I love chicago..but don't you like your money in 401ks and stocks then giving it away to state government's on programs you will never use? Don't you like taking vacations like I do?

Please explain more ( I promise I won't cuss you out because I want to know why)

Well, I was born and raised in southern California. Love it there. Best fucking place in the world to live. I wasn't making as much money when I lived in CA as I do now. And in all seriousness, to live well in CA you have to be making serious coin AND you can not carry any debt (other than a mortgage) because you will get eaten alive. You also need a sizable nest egg in a savings account. It really is incredible how the expenses add up there. Of course, I always lived in high cost areas, Orange County and Los Angeles. There are cheaper areas -- but they suck.

You can't just make $50k a year and expect to buy a home. California is a different animal, and a big part of the problem is because of how much wealth flows into the desirable areas, bringing real estate prices way up to borderline unattainable levels. You have people moving to places like Newport Beach and Santa Monica from all over the world whenever they've made a lot of money. The housing market is totally, TOTALLY ridiculous in those areas. But despite all of the negatives about CA, the traffic, the cost of living, I still will always love it and the culture and quality of life cannot be duplicated anywhere else. The people there are great too. Lots of smiles in California. Everyone here in Vegas looks like they're walking around in a homicidal rage.

Keep in mind that I am a far left liberal and I don't really mind where many of CA's taxes go towards, because I believe in all (or most of) those things. Yes, I love vacations and I do have a stock portfolio as well as a SEP retirement account, but I have a different perspective of what it actually takes to live in California since I've grown up there, and spent a lot of time being broke there. lol It's my hometown. Just like Chicago is yours.

Today, they are only interested in power.

You mean all politician since the dawn of history? I don't get how you can say the Democrats are in it only for power, but a guy like Donald Trump is doing it out of the pure kindness of his heart.

My entire question remains how any working middle class guy can afford to vote for democrats is beyond my comprehension, I understand women who do because they are more afraid of the social issues involved , but middle class guys? That want to pay more for health care and receive less? Middle class guys that want to see their taxes go up?

I will never get that.

.

Dear bear513
I have a friend, in a wheelchair with no way to pay for unaffordable inaccessible health care and no way to navigate the maze of public health care through a county system that is so backlogged he expects to deteriorate before he gets help.

He knows he is against the ACA mandates that didn't do garbage, but his taxes are paying
for govt officials to have their benefits all covered while they give constituents higher costs and mandates
to pay our own way through tons of bureaucracy they all opted out of, and their political buddies and unions did too.

He explains he is more against the rightwing Christians and Conservatives who have such influence
and power in the media and society, that the only way to say no and fight these bullies
is to get behind the Democratic Party as the only bully that can meet them at their level.

so these victims rely on the collective party to fight that battle for them
and remain dependent.

I have equated this to the abused women in domestic violent relationships
where they depend totally on their abusive husbands to control the purse strings.*
they fear for their children, they are better off staying safe with someone
who at least is consistent and will keep doing the same things.
but the effort it will take to break free and support themselves on their own
without that stability they are used to
is too much, and they stay in the relationship. The fear of change
and fear they can't manage on their own, keeps them dependent on the bigger bully.

As much as Democrats proclaim to champion women's rights
and sympathize with women recovering from rape and abuse,
this bullying game is as much part of the same patriarchal politics
they are supposed to be against.
perhaps they see it as using fire to fight fire.

But doing it wrong, everyone gets burned.
The whole house will burn down at this rate.

*The DOJ includes in the definition of domestic violence
the tactic of withholding one's access to money:
Domestic Violence | OVW | Department of Justice

Economic Abuse: Is defined as making or attempting to make an individual financially dependent by maintaining total control over financial resources, withholding one's access to money, or forbidding one's attendance at school or employment.

So tell me that the Democratic Party isn't guilty of doing this with the
ACA mandates that allow federal govt to withhold income from people
instead of respecting the right to choose how to pay and provide for health care.

You touched my heart there Emily, I was just reading about this guy who kidnapped a couple in Spartanburg SC

Two months ago found this woman locked up in a shed with a dog collar chained around her neck..guy friend no where to be found.
The cops think a serial killer

Yea I get what you are saying Emily women with children in abusive relationships no where to turn .

That might be a good enough reason to vote democrat because republicans it don't seem to me care.

Dear bear513 the Republicans who care don't tout and flout it in the media for political points.
they go through charity which used to be traditionally done in private, not publicly for show.

the best health care programs are private, the charities, the children's hospitals
that rely on donations and do fine that way. they earn the support without demanding mandates forcing
them to be paid as corporate insurance interests under ACA.
Doctors without Borders, Americares,
even USAA insurance are stellar examples of how to care for those in need
but through business or charity, not relying on govt.

and these are superior to the mess facing my friend stuck with county services.

So that's why you won't see Republicans kowtowing and buying votes by promising
to take care of people. When you really care as parents do for their kids, they
want them to grow up to be independent and able to care for themselves,
or else they are doing a grave disservice to their kids.

The Democrats should be in charge of those who need that supervision,
and let Republicans mentor the citizens who don't, and deserve tax breaks
for investing in growing businesses and charities that serve without depending on govt.

We can use both, just like how husbands and wives serve different roles,
mothers and fathers, in an equal relationships.

Let the GOP handle foreign affairs and defense
and let Dems handle internal affairs and social programs
that appeal to the women and minorities not trained yet
to manage on their own as the Libertarians and other
GOP conservatives and Constitutionalists are already doing and teaching.

we aren't all at the same class level of social and political development.
so why not set up separate levels or tiers and let peopel choose
how they want to organize and pay their taxes to support what
level, and let them move upward, helping mentoring the next person to move up.

We can organize it and manage it like a school,
with class academic levels where the point is to
provide support, but not to keep dependent, but to
reward those for moving up with greater responsibilities and more choices.

the ones who remain d ependent due to disability or other conditions
can be helped by sponsors who choose that, or by interns as part
of their job training or education, so the costs are covered by voluntary participation and donation or investment.

none of this has to be coerced.
but that's how it's being pushed because Dems and GOP
don't trust each other and are competing to make
each other look bad so they can gain politically.

no, that's like two parents dissing the other so they
can get custody of the kids to get the contract money.
they should both care for the best interests of the kids
and not just fight for control over the household.

we need them to work together
so we the people need to work together.

the media, the govt, the institutions we build in society
will be a reflection of what we the people practice in
our own lives relationships and society.

as it has been said many different ways
we have to be the change we want to see i nthe world
it starts with us

You mean all politician since the dawn of history? I don't get how you can say the Democrats are in it only for power, but a guy like Donald Trump is doing it out of the pure kindness of his heart.

I can say Trump isn't putting party politics first, because he threw his own GOP and leaders under the bus.

The Democrats put party first because that's what gets them elected.
They put that before the Constitution they have thrown under the bus.

When Trump goes too far, the Constitutionalists stop him.
He does listen eventually, which is more than I can say of Democrats
who won't let anything get in the way of agenda.

and these are superior to the mess facing my friend stuck with county services.

I am falling in love with your mind Emily..

Wow, just Wow

Let the GOP handle foreign affairs and defense
and let Dems handle internal affairs and social programs

I can't disagree with it, yea we both know republicans are shady with defense programs and democrats are shady with social programs but you are 100% right.

Dang you have a great mind.

Amen!

I am making $28 bucks an hour $60,000 to $80,000 a year depending on OT@ 51 I am a blue collar guy..that's who I am , I have a shit load of industrial skills was in plastics for 30 years and changed over to the energy business not much different still an industrial maintenance guy just more bigger equipment.

I can't afford to vote democrat if I wanted to, sure I like liberal ideas of right to choose (don't care) gun control (yes I have a little glock 9mm) but something has to be done.. Smoke a joint once and a while or do a line with out fear of going to prision..

But I can't afford to vote democrat , being born and raised in the chicago area I seen first hand how destructive democrat policys are.

All democrats want to do is trickle up poor, trickle up misery.run away jobs , make the middle class as miserable as the poor.

Don't you get it, I know first hand you have to be making at least $500,000 a year to be a working man to vote for a democrat..

Otherwise you just fuck your self....in the pocket book.
What is it about the Democrat or Hillary's plans that make you think it's going to cost you more? Is it her tax plan? Have you compared her plan to Trumps plan? You know when they say that Hillary wants to increase taxes it is a spin, as it only applies to people making over $250,000 right?

Trump doesn't have a plan, he will be lock stock and barrel with the democrats and republicans plan in congress same with hillary same with Obama they don't have a plan.

Obama Care took thousands of dollars away from hard working americans yea we can live and fight another day but come on ..Hillary's plan is the same as Obama's

Put Emily back on here her Ideas make more sense to me

Let republicans control foreign policy and national defense let democrats control social problems

The Damn post of the decade

Of course you can. If you're making 60-80k per year you actually can't afford not to vote Democrat. You actually don't make enough to benefit from the GOP's tax breaks that only help people making more than 250k per year.

The Republican party couldn't give any less of a fuck about you. They hate the middle class and are hell bent on making sure they disappear entirely.
The Democrats have done SO much for the people, right? Look at Detroit, Chicago and large cities everywhere Democrats rule!

Thanks Jackson
just read a postcard comparing
the debts and costs of Democrat led
City of Houston's record
cf with
Harris County that is Republican led.

To be fair, what they leave out is the
tax enforcement on property of both
have dismal records of corruption and abuse.
And the record and cost of crime and incarceration
coming out of Harris county puts a larger burden
on taxpayers statewide than the numbers will show.

What isn't shown is the strong relations and influence
with churches, ministries and educational institutions
in Houston that are responsible for a lot of the positive
social capital and diverse resources in Houston and Harris County.

The police who spoke at a Fifth Ward church in a historically
Black neighborhood cited the strong ministerial connections
between churches and police and city that accounted for
the lack of rioting type behavior against police as in other cities.

So what is to credit is the spiritual work of the church
and volunteer outreach. If that element is cut off or corrupted,
as Democrats have promoted this culture of demonizing and
rejecting Christian practice, that is cutting off the very support
system that impoverished communities depend on to overcome
hardship. Trying to make people dependent on govt and to take
resources away from community faith based groups is backwards.

But that's what the Democrats have done to extort votes from minorities.
Buying them out and making them dependent, instead of promoting
independence and rewarding community leaders with tax breaks
for investing in their own programs. Instead, the Democrats make
careers collecting resources for their own campaigns for office.
even if those resources, and donations from corporate interests,
mean taking away from the very communities they claim to represent
that go without funding support.

The Democrats will even fight amongst themselves
who gets to play the role of house slave in this game.

Very sick and saddening.
I will be glad to see the day this is finally replaced
with microlending and training programs, as both
Carson and Obama have both advocated as the best solution
to end dependence on welfare. The day all Black leaders
finally unite, and quit pandering to the left right politics and media,
not only will the poorest communities benefit, but the entire nation!

Haha, I like it... or better yet, get rid of Ds and Rs all together

You are probably right, but I want to remind us that Hillary is likely to handle the economy like Bill Clinton did. The economy made a terrific recovery and debt even paid down for the first time in history during Bill's two terms.
so by voting for Hillary we can expect another bubble like the dot.com?
you know, an industry that comes up with something that stimulates the economy and makes it look good for whoever the president is?
Clinton had almost nothing to do with the good economy, he did however share a great deal in the crash that came after he left office.

What a day my cubbies win the world series and you spark my interest on what started off as a sarcastic thread of mine? Dang Emily I am breathless , speechless you got it..perfect ..

Congratulations on a successful thread and a historic win.
It was only that I was sick last night and happened to watch it with my bf
who is a huge baseball fan
that I ended up watching history being made.

There have been good relations in the past with the advocates of
public housing reform in my Freedmen's Town neighborhood
with advocates in Chicago working on the issues there.

So maybe we could work together in the future to make sure
the ideals and promises of the Democratic party are made good.
I believe that is owed to the constituents who have been bought and sold on that ticket.
The Black Democrats especially have been sold down the river,
and though they may not believe in suing, they have more standing than any other group I've seen.
Since the leadership that could pull this off comes from the Black pastors of
Christian churches and the Muslim leaders, they won't need to sue if they band together
and just ask or petition as a united front.

That's where I think this could happen, as I have seen the Black Christian
and Black Muslim leadership and what they can do. If they continue this
progression toward uniting left and right, liberal and conservative around
solid business plans, boom, there it is. They will have it.

As you said, we cannot afford to keep going otherwise.
So out of pure necessity, we have to change how things are done.

Thanks for posting this thread. As long as you reach out to others
and are open to the diverse responses you get, you will get more
than you give here, or at worst break even. As much as you share
with others, you will gain as much back or more.

Especially by reaching across the aisle, into the areas where you
least understand, by making allies there, that is building bridges
that we need in order to turn this country around.

So may I encourage you to keep exploring, keep asking and
keep challenging the barriers and reasons for opposition and obstruction
you see standing in the way of progress. it's a mutual give and take,
and the more we stretch to include the new insights and different
approaches of others, the more they do the same with us.

Thanks bear513
and Congratulations again on the wonderful hard earned
victory that Chicago is celebrating. More power to you!
