How To Handle A Coworker Who's Trying to Sabotage You

They were mad at me for a couple days then they started talking to me again. And one day I was saying something outside and one of them said "that's because you're an asshole" and we all started laughing.

I'm not an asshole. If a customer asks for a quote or send a PO, you MUST respond to them in 24 hours. If you don't and it's consistently with every customer, they end up not doing business with us eventually. He didn't realize he is costing this company money by doing what he was doing. Or he doesn't care. Now I know he does care about the owners and the company so I don't think he was doing it on purpose.

Oh, here's an update. These guys were constantly complaining that they have TOO MUCH WORK TO DO and ESPECIALLY SHIPPING. So, we hired a new girl to help them make quotes, flip orders and SHIP THINGS. But they are now having a hard time letting go. We see them back there shipping shit and we ask why Shally isn't back there with them learning how to ship? The truth is, they have plenty of time. They just, for whatever reason, don't want to have to respond immediately to emails that come in. They aren't business guys they are operations guys. They don't understand business 101. You don't make customers wait more than 24 hours for a response. Hell, my customers get a reply in 10 minutes or less.

So we lost a bunch of workers. Our most important guys go on the road Monday through Friday. It's hard to find people willing to do that. Anyways, we lost a couple and the owners said we have too many sales people for how many service engineers we have. The President was fired. My boss was offered a $50K salary and he would have to come in 5 days a week. He was working from home making around $100K. So of course he said no and they let him go. That left just me. No other salespeople in the office. Just 2 outside salespeople who sell CMM's and me who sells aftermarket stuff.

So EVERYONE I work with is Operations/Support team workers. They are not sales. I start telling them they MUST reply back to customers in a timely manner. I tried to be nice but eventually, they said "I don't like how you're telling me..." Little bitches. So I told the owner. I hope they like how the owner told them the same thing I did. I tried to be nice but they would not listen. And what they are doing is literally destroying the business.

It was the main service guy and he started infecting everyone else. One guy late at night, must have been drunk because the email made no sense, basically wrote me that "we feel like you care more about commissions than you do being a team member." I told him that is true. I also told the owners he/they are saying that and the owners agree. OF COURSE that's what I care about. That's why they hired me and that's why they love me.

I'm a team player too but if my teammates suck, I'm going to call them on it. Like Michael Jordan. Maybe you are more like Lebron. If his teammates suck, oh well. Nothing he can do about them, right? Jordan would disagree. Jordan would get on his teammates and INSIST they perform up to their max potential. So I'm a team player but I'm a Jordan type teammate.

And the funny thing is, these guys aren't too busy. They must want to sit around and do non money generating activities. They just don't want to have extra work put on them. The standard jobs are too much for them so when I come to them with a big upgrade opportunity, it's like they don't want the extra work. But me and the owners INSIST.

Remember to be a good team player you have to also make the owner of your club happy. Not just your teammates.
