If you look at US history, first generation immigrants maintain their native culture as best they can. In the US there were Yiddish language newspapers, schools, and theaters in NYC where many Jews settled at the beginning of the last century. They spoke Yiddish at home and often only the men learned English. Their kids were bilingual and had a foot in their parents culture and a foot in US culture. The 3rd generation were true Americans and often could barely speak to their grandparents.

This pattern holds true for most groups so comparing 1st generation Muslims in Europe to 3rd generation Americans is hardly a valid comparison.
