He was supposed to be competent

Tip of the hat to Peggy Noonan - this time around she has captured the essence of what is unfolding around Obama in the face of his significant missteps with the health care bill, immigration reform, and now the Gulf Oil crisis. And as I have said before, there is a sense of sadness in seeing this man so out of his depth, so clearly hiding behind an increasingly thin veneer of arrogance in an attempt to hide his incompetence...
____

What continues to fascinate me is Mr. Obama's standing with Democrats. They don't love him. Half the party voted for Hillary Clinton, and her people have never fully reconciled themselves to him. But he is what they have. They are invested in him. In time—after the 2010 elections go badly—they are going to start to peel off. The political operative James Carville, the most vocal and influential of the president's Gulf critics, signaled to Democrats this week that they can start to peel off. He did it through the passion of his denunciations.

The disaster in the Gulf may well spell the political end of the president and his administration, and that is no cause for joy. It's not good to have a president in this position—weakened, polarizing and lacking broad public support—less than halfway through his term. That it is his fault is no comfort. It is not good for the stability of the world, or its safety, that the leader of "the indispensable nation" be so weakened. I never until the past 10 years understood the almost moral imperative that an American president maintain a high standing in the eyes of his countrymen.

I wouldn't count him out yet. Whether you agree with him or not, the healthcare bill will go down as the most significant healthcare legislation since Medicare. Likewise the Financial Reform bill will be biggest regulatory bill the country has see in many years. The immigration reform bill may likewise go down as major legislation.

Obama's response to the oil spill is what I would expect from a Republican administration. Let private industry handle the problem.

The approach of the Big 0 to anything is to create an enemy that he can attack. He has no ideas and no programs other than he is right, whatever enemy he has appointed is evil and we will be well served to condemn and atttack along with him.

You are watching the Big 0's Home Run swing. He wheels it out every time he gets in trouble.

All of the best minds in deep sea oil rig drilling have failed to fix this disaster yet you assholes have singled out Obama as the point of failure. Hey you whitey righty fuckwits.. Blow me!

It is just this exact lack of intelligent accessment of reality that has caused america to dissmiss you. Bush proved it to a fault and even warned that this is the area you need to gain credibility your only response is more of the same.

November is coming up sooner than you think....Sorry.."think" was out of line..

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Pretty amazing. To this day this administration goes well out of it's way to lay every problem in the world today at the doorstep of President Bush. Will you be honest for once on this message board and answer this question.

If this happened when Bush was President how would the media and the Democrats responded?:eusa_eh:

Let's face it.This guy was a Community organizer/Agitator...A State Senator for a short time. A United States Senator for an even shorter time. Led a charmed life.Reads a speech well.Never ran a business.Never had to be responsible for running anything. He follows what his handlers tell him to do.When he gets heat about not doing enough about Health Care\Wall Street\Banking\Insurance\AutoIndustry\Unemployment,you name it.Then he's quick to run to the teleprompter and give a speech and then he's off doing whatever. Then nothing happens and MSNBC is wet in their pants about what a great President this guy is.

I don't speak for democrats. They are basically weak and divided on almost every issue.

The media speaks the tune the multinational corporate bosses dictate. I believe they are trying to make money and consolidate power. That is their job. Who or what they intend to support or destroy in that effort..I do not know...they never consult me:eek:

Bush did what he did. I do not make up anything for your entertainment. I do not lie unless there is a lot of money involved. ..No worse than an attorney

Sadly, that pretty much sums up the Obama presidency to date...

I've come to the conclusion that Obama butt slid through college. He's the type who would always push himself into the smartest group for projects, do nothing, but then insist on giving the presentation.

It's unfortunate that there aren't at least SOME minimum political or business related requirements for the office of President. How can you be competent in running a country with ZERO business experience? How can you be competent in managing a crisis with no management experience? How can you be competent in developing legislation with little or no legislative experience?

I would be much more inclined to vote for someone who was born in another country and grew up in American but had spent the last 5 years as a business owner or at least CEO of a company and/or a minimum of 6 years as an elected official than I would an American born coat tail rider with no experience of any kind to qualify them as president.

Sorry Huggy, this has absolutely NOTHING...I REPEAT...N O T H I N G to do with race. As much as you might want it to be. It has EVERYTHING....I REPEAT....E V E R Y T H I N G to do with competence...

I didn't say I wanted a foreigner as president..but I DID say I would rather vote for someone born elsewhere who grew up in America than some idiot with no experience whose only qualification is a birth certificate from one of 50 states.

What's so disturbing is that you put more stock in where the POTUS is born over what he (or she) brings to the table for qualifications.

Now please get off this racial bullshit. I would have said the same thing if Barack Obama was as white as you.

Its amazing how the dems called Bush stupid and incompetent and "chimp" and never stopped whining about every vacation or round of golf. then the topper was Katrina, which was a massive natural disaster, setup mostly by the dems mis-managing levees and the flood plain. Now Obama is driving the bus and criticizing him is fair game.

Here is the question always asked. You know its coming. It comes up every 4-years. IS THE US BETTER OFF NOW THAN IT WAS 4-YEARS AGO?????

The racial component to the mindless negativity heaped on Obama may not be generated by some that fall for the message. That doesn't excuse it. Much of the insane BC mentality is obviously still in existance.

Whatever that means.....you might want to follow your own advice and seek some help. The color of a man's skin doesn't determine his competence...period.

You might think about the fact that it seems more important to you to focus on his race. I never brought it up...but you immediately went to the race factor...just sayin.

Seriously? If you voted for Bush even once, STFU...otherwise, you make some interesting points...

And what does ones voting record have to do with this observation???

You're the one who keeps making this about race.

It's not.

Americans thought they were electing a Black Ronald Reagan but what they got was a Black Mao Tse Tung.

Black Ronald Reagan my ass, more like a Black Jimmy Carter but only much worse!!!!! Dumber than a box of peanuts!!!!

Whomever thought they were electing a Black Ronald Reagan via Obama clearly indicated absolutely no understanding of who Reagan was, or who Obama is...
