A 23-year-old man unleashed a shockingly violent and grisly attack Sunday afternoon, hacking his girlfriend to death and wounding his own teenage siblings at a LaPlace home, according to authorities.
Oscar Urias then allegedly chased down his girlfriend’s 15-year-old sister, cornering her in a neighbor’s open garage where he slashed her with a machete-like knife until her screams attracted the attention of the homeowner, a 63-year-old man who asked not to be identified.
"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer against illegally present Salvadoran national Oscar Alaya-Urias with the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office Oct. 26 following his arrest on two counts of first-degree murder, and two counts of attempted murder, for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend and her sister to death with a machete-style knife, and also wounding two of his own siblings.
"Alaya-Urias was previously encountered by the U.S. Border Patrol in March 2012 near Hidalgo, Texas, after illegally entering the U.S. He was issued a Notice to Appear and later released to a sponsor in May 2012. Due to policies in place at that time applicable to unaccompanied minors, his immigration proceedings were administratively closed on Sep. 29, 2016.
He is either mentally ill or on drugs. He is here illegally. That is horrific.
