Haley: Raise the Retirement Age

This is ploy to save Social Security boils down to this:

By raising the retirement age we hope you die before you can collect any of (or much of) your money you had taken from you your entire working life by the govt.

Very true.

Why raise retirement age? To reduce benefit payout from the system of course.

How are the reductions in payouts achieved?
  1. You work to death and die before drawing benefits.
  2. You draw benefits for fewer years.
Pretty simple really.

Easy for this Phony Beatch to suggest.....she is taking in millions in her hopeless Presidential run. Those millions will hire relatives and Husbands/Kids at $500K/yr to do nothing. Money into her bank eventually. She will get her retirement money up front.....not $1358/mo at age 62 (and hope you live to see some of it).

Apparently covid didn’t do the trick.

It has been posted over and over in here by the good smart posters. Some jobs-some workers, you don't want a 70 yr old roofer, or truck driver hauling chemicals around. Eyes go, hips go etc.

Each case is very different. When someone needs to hang it up. A blanket "70 yrs. old" is preposterous. they paid in.....they should be able to pull out when they want to age 55 and up (perhaps?).

Blah, as long as politicians can steal from the fund nothing will keep it whole.

If they really wanted to do something they should pull SSDI and Medicaid out of the mix as those are the millstones dragging SS/Medicare down.

It won't matter what Haley or anyone else thinks on this issue. The truth is, the age for full benefits will sooner or later HAVE TO BE raised. You can fight it all you like, but it will happen.

Work your whole life and pay into a system you were FORCED to pay in to, only to enjoy yourself for a couple years.
What a load of bullshit.
Yeah, what asshole cooked up the whole stupid idea in the first place? Oh that's right, it was the worst scumbag POS president we've ever had.

She's probably not wrong, and the same applies to all retirement systems. We have a replacement rate problem and people are living longer. Yeah it sucks, but it is what it is.

Plus how's that globalization and tech. working out so far? If you think those haven't contributed to a lower wages then you're probably a Democrat.

Wait and see what the AI age has in store for us. The govt. and elite will throw us a bone every now and again. And that will reduce lifespans for sure, because we'll be sitting around on our collective ass.

BTW, Biden led our govt. to lie about SS during his speech to the world. He insists we should leave SS alone and put everyone on the spot. Sure he might leave it alone for his tenure because he's a pussy and knows the public is dumb & ignorant and will support him for it. By nature Democrats reject responsibility anyway. So Biden assume make it someone else's problem, and who is more honest than he.

"Eventually" is a long time. Could be 10 years, 100 years, 1000 years. So I can't disagree.

But raising age as a means of cutting benefits in a manner to prevent the SS Trust Fund shortfall in 2035 is a different matter.

Here are pertinent facts about Social Security (SS) that most people don't know:
1. SS is a welfare program for the poor that reimburses low income workers at a much higher rate than higher income workers.
2. SS is a welfare program for the rich by not taxing very high incomes.
3. SS is not an investment program. It pays out fixed benefits that are guaranteed by the U.S. Government.
4. SS is not actuarially sound. It is based on an ever increasing ratio of workers to beneficiaries.
5. SS benefits married people by proving a free 50% spousal benefit.
6. SS benefits older (70+) people with high incomes by allowing them to receive full benefits while still working.

Rather than simply raising the Social Security retirement age, here are some other alternatives that would improve the program's financial outlook while addressing some of its current inequities:
1. Raise or eliminate the cap on incomes subject to SS taxes.
2. Replace the spousal benefit by splitting the income calculation equally between the spouses.
3. Extend the age 70 income adjustment (1/3) to all ages above that.
