Globalization. Is it bad for America? Debate

It doesn't really matter if it's good for Americans or not. It is reality, and it's the future. If the U.S. can't handle it, others will. Like China, for instance.

Did you post this from an American made computer ?

I think globalization helps keep the world peaceful . You don’t want to go to war with a country you do all kinds of business with .

Well seeing how the US has one of the highest GDPs in the world, how could it be bad?

It has not been great for a specific demographic of people in labor-intensive, industrial work. Of course, regardless, automation would have ravaged their profession even without the influence of globalization. It is simply the inexorable advance of time. You can't turn back the clock when it comes to technology. Not unless you want to commit suicide.

Wrong. Globalization opens up more markets for American goods and ups the standard of living in other countries that provides the purchasing power for those goods.

That’s economics 101.Which is why the trumpanzees don’t get it

Wrong what? All I said was it was interesting.
Fucking moron

Globalization is failing in Europe and Merkel's political career is hanging by a thread. Hsi has an economy with a debt load of four @ GDPs which is the closest I can find to a defensible figure on the low end of estimates. For example farmers can't afford the seed to plant anything but Wheat or rice in China. Brazil the other big source of soy beans is trying to expand its herds.

Germany and other countries have been smart, training their workers for the good jobs globalization brings. The GOP of course refuses to do that... must save the rich.

Globalization depends on the big three consumer markets China, India and the US, coming to an agreement. The other alternative is the EU becoming the USE. neither solution seems doable.

we can't get 4 people in here to agree on much of anything for more than 5 minutes.

how the unholy fucksticks could we ever hope to make the world suddenly put away mankinds entire history and "go global" when it's just not human nature.

The best book I have read about the topic is The Lexus and the Olive Tree:

Here is a synopsis of the book:

Recommendation
Thomas L. Friedman explains that the old world order of the Cold War has been replaced by a new paradigm of globalization. In this system, finance, information and technology are being democratized. The Lexus automotive brand of the title is the emblem of globalization. The Olive Tree stands for deep local cultural connections. The tension between globalization and cultural identity is the defining conflict of the new era. Friedman excels at making connections among diverse events and is a brilliant storyteller. He is particularly good at translating complex ideas into vivid, clear, colloquial language. His observations seem so simple that it is easy to miss how profound they are. His arguments seem almost irrefutable. He is basically optimistic and chooses not to dwell much on the dangers implicit in this new world. getAbstract.com recommends the book to everybody. Because Friedman draws heavily on his rich store of anecdotes this book is best appreciated in its full length.

In summary,
  • Why the tension between globalization and cultural identity is the defining conflict of the new era;
  • How the global economy and Internet have turned countries into “companies”; and
  • Why globalization is irreversible.

Reminder, the book was written something like 10-15 years ago I think….bullet point number one sounds pretty descriptive of the strife we’re having now; does it not?

With today's transportation and information it is only natural globalization that is. Cheap labor and electronics mean menial labor goes to the cheapest countries. Here you have to train people for the technical jobs like other countries do. The greedy idiot GOP is ruining us all to save the rich...
