Germany is on course to shut down its three remaining nuclear power plants on Saturday.

It was nearly 30% in 2006. 12% in 2021, 6% in 2022, and 0% now.

Each nuke is the equivalent annual generation as about 800 giant 5MW wind turbines.

And when the wind isn't blowing, they'll be missing the nukes. Used to be 17 of them.

Those blades are extremely sensitive to any wind at all, and can keep turning for hours even in conditions where there's no wind. 🤷‍♂️

Mining, processing and purifying the Uranium for nuclear reactor fuel is anything but a clean process. Involving millions of gallons of boric acid to be pumped into the ground or mined in open pit mines (next to vanadium deposits used in steel) produces Radon Gas. All the miners involved with Uranium mining tend to develop lung cancer and other cancers.

Then both the processing/purifying site AND the reactor site are what is known as a "brown site" where no industry or residential housing can exist.
This waste stays "hot" for literally thousands of years.

And reactors have a lifespan....they don't stay functional forever. You can only absorb so many rads before you have a lifetime limit. Meaning that you will get cancer at some pount...cancer is not a pleasant disease. And when it comes from radiation there generally is no cure.
More people die from windmills than nuclear power.

Same with solar power. And fossil fuels

No one said it was perfect but it is the worlds best and safest bet for reducing the use of fossil fuels. The rest is wishful thinking

Nope, not true. You just don't hear about those with lung cancer from the radon gas when mining Uranium. Most of them WERE in Ukraine. Owned by a Russian Oligarch that was Putin's buddy.
Currently the Buddy got exchanged for Ukranians captured in a POW exchange. There is no uranium mining in Ukraine at the moment.

Yes all true.

More people die from falling off of windmills while maintaining them or erecting solar panels.
Nuclear power is far safer and that is statistical fact

Well, Germany nationalised their biggest gas company Uniper, so that will have helped to take the strain off the electric grid due to the Ukraine war. Also, German electric was heavily surcharged to pay for the crappy renewables, so with energy prices rocketing, they've postponed these surcharges to take pressure off households.

So to get a true cost of Germany's energy prices is anyone's guess, but to ditch nuclear is foolish
