Germany to close all 84 of its coal-fired power plants, will rely primarily on renewable energy

Germany, one of the world’s biggest consumers of coal, will shut down all 84 of its coal-fired power plants over the next 19 years to meet its international commitments in the fight against climate change, a government commission said Saturday.

The announcement marked a significant shift for Europe’s largest country — a nation that had long been a leader on cutting CO2 emissions before turning into a laggard in recent years and badly missing its reduction targets. Coal plants account for 40% of Germany’s electricity, itself a reduction from recent years when coal dominated power production.

“This is an historic accomplishment,” said Ronald Pofalla, chairman of the 28-member govt commission, at a news conference in Berlin following a marathon 21-hour negotiating session that concluded at 6 a.m. Saturday. The breakthrough ended seven months of wrangling...

Why is it going to take 19 years to close 84 power plants, just do it cold turkey? The reason why, is after the 2nd plant is closed and people are now deciding if they want to charge their electronics or have their refrigerator on, you will start seeing yellow vests popping up all over the Fatherland....

Because 19 years is a reality-based number but AOC's comment that America's youth "fear that the world will end in 12 years" was hyperbole.

They better listen to her, she’s a dumbasses democrat who knows everything.

I didn't want to insult you by suggesting that you didn't know what hyperbole meant, but I guess I erred.

Let me show you two statements:

1) This airplane will crash in five minutes
2) The children fear this airplane will crash in five minutes

Do these two statements convey the same thing?

We really should be conserving natural resources and moving to cleaner, renewable sources for energy. That's the conservative thought on it, anyway.

China probably has 8,400 coal plants

Good call. But you still don't seem to know the meaning (and use) of hyperbole.
