Not for keeping up with his daughters whereabouts. Quit deflecting. He's in jail now, right? Hmmmmmmmmmm.
The dad shot his gun, either intentionally or unintentionally missing the guy.True indeed, but there is no reason to suppose that was the case here. He just showed up, tracking her without her permission, and shot her boyfriend. Darn. I hate to think what kind of father he was all these years: abusive, presumably.
The dad shot his gun, either intentionally or unintentionally missing the guy.
You are jumping to conclusions when you guess the father was abusive for years.
Look at the facts and stop speculating. He tracked his daughter down at 10 in the morning and shot at her boyfriend, and based on the charges against him, her as well.
Clearly there was not a good relationship between the daughter and the father.
And after this incident there likely never will be
Look at the facts and stop speculating.
There’s no indication he shot at his daughter. We don’t know the dad shot at the boy, but you are unable to accept this fact for psychological reasons.
If the dad didn’t go to jail maybe they’d all be best friends in a couple of years. The young couple, their baby, and grandpa.
Maybe a family fishing trip?
A family-oriented society is stable. A society without dads is anarchic.
Which is more orderly, the South Side of Chicago or Utah?
Look at the facts and stop speculating.

Your rambling musings on Shakespeare and Mormons aside, let’s consider social anarchy and family breakdown. The Hills of Kentucky have a strong family oriented society. The family works together to grow marijuana. Smuggle drugs. Steal.
Drug trafficking bust in eastern Kentucky results in thousands of pills and millions in cash seized
Each one faces up to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $1 million if convicted.www.wdrb.com
And this isn’t new. It is part of the family oriented traditions isn’t it?
For centuries those families have been making illegal whisky and flaunting laws. But hey. Why worry about the laws. They good families right?
The swamps of Louisiana have a very strong family oriented society don’t they?
So does the Mafia. So does many if not most criminal empires. In fact. The Mafia is referred to as a Family isn’t it? Loyalty to the family is above all.
What you envision is a fantasy. Where everyone is exactly the same. It doesn’t work. It never has.
Reality through history is that families which do ignore laws are inevitably hip deep in violence. And feuds. Quickly.
See Romeo and Juliette for young lovers who enrage their families.
See most Shakespeare for that matter. Civilization requires rules. Family oriented is fine, but it can’t be enforced on anyone else. There be the rub. And there be why the Family oriented unit as a basis for a civilized and peaceful society fails. Because there can only be one justice when a wrong is perceived. The feud.
But let’s talk about Utah. The Mormons who founded it set forth very strict laws. Laws that were enforced, to the letter. Without exceptions.
There is the old joke. Two kids of cops in the old days. Mormons, and Irish. The law says spitting on the sidewalk is a crime. The Irish cop understands it happens, and has even done it himself a time or two. So he warns the offender and tells him to knock it off. The Mormon locks the offender up. Law says this, and that is that. No exceptions.
Like many jokes, there is an element of truth to that.
Proof of this is the Utah board of Pardons and Paroles which receives very few requests, and grants even fewer. Why bother is the attitude, the Mormons aren’t going to be forgiving.
So your better place to live argument is lost, because it isn’t the strong family focused society, but the intolerant attitude towards crime. No excuses, ever.
Now, arguments can be made that this proves tough on crime works, but there remains a missing element in the US Justice System that we won’t bother going into in this thread. I’ve covered recidivism more times than I care to think about in other threads.
“75% of the long-term correctional facility inmates are from father-absent households. 85% of rapist that were motivated by “displaced anger” are, from fatherless homes. 85% of kids who exhibit behavioral disorders are from fatherless homes. 85% of kids in State Institutions are from fatherless homes.”Your rambling musings on Shakespeare and Mormons aside, let’s consider social anarchy and family breakdown.

In the half century since Daniel Patrick Moynihan's seminal report, the pattern he identified has shown itself in the lives of poor Americans of all races. The problems remain worst in the black community, and the history and realities of racism that Moynihan pointed to are surely important...eppc.org

You keep employing lies to make your point.I guess in your world nothing screams "strong nuclear family" quite like a father tracking down his 17 year old in broad daylight and shooting at her boyfriend, and if the charges can be believed, at the daughter as well.
