Florida to Shipping Companies: Forget California, We’ll Unload Your Ships

Southern California has 1.8 billion square feet of warehouse space. I doubt Florida can match that.

~~~~~~
Again you forget the fact that Eastern ports are not being utilized. China is concentrating their shipping on the ports of California, whereas if they they used the Atlantic routes to America the number of ports to discharge goods would be more than enough. All ports on the Atlantic coast that I mentioned handle the super sized container ships.
Doesn't China run the Panama Canal?
In short, not only will the Panama canal expansion, (the current Suez canal and projected Nicaragua canal, for that matter) not accommodate the world largest ships: they don't already.
The Panama Canal locks were enlarged less then 5 years ago I believe costing billions of dollars. I don't see another expansion for a long time, if ever.
40% of U.S. Imports come in thru Long Beach.
Currently there are approx. 1 million containers waiting to be unloaded.
Dimm's wish us all a very Merry XMAS and to all a good night!
(What does Buttigieg do afterall, besides his husband?).
Ships begin backing up at NY-NJ amid cargo surge. 27 Sep 2021. The Port of New York and New Jersey on Monday reported the highest number of container ships at anchor all year as landside congestion and the inability to quickly fetch containers off terminals add to delays.
Clown, if there are 1 million containers waiting to be unloaded how do you expect this to be fixed overnite? Think those containers just showed up overnight out of nowhere?
Extra 3-4 days sail time vs having your ships sit idle off the California coast for months.
Once again Democrats scare away major businesses.
“Florida is where your success comes in, and our seaports are the solution to ensure the cargo shipping logjam doesn’t become the Grinch that stole Christmas,” said Michael Rubin, President and CEO of the Florida Ports Council. “Why pay to moor off the coast of California, when Florida shipping lanes are open and serving as the gateway for getting goods to America’s market,” Rubin said in a press release.
Do they have the infrastructure to do it? Do they have the staff to do it? I highly doubt that they do.
Florida is in the middle of the worst covid outbreak in the USA. I seriously doubt that they're in any position to do what they're claiming.
Of course not!
This appointed Dimm Administration has been asleep at the wheel. 2 months ago, my wife's sister who works at the docks in Long Beach told her cargo had begun to build up.
The ship passing by in the photo above was loaded with 3,800 containers and going through the original lock system, not the wider one. Here’s what the captain paid when I was there, which was in 2014:
– $321,446 for the containers
– $11,445 for the work of 7 tugboats
– $4,745 for ground assistants
– $3,600 for ground wires
When they exit the other side of the Panama Canal, that transit alone will have added 1/3 of a $million to the cost of the goods on the ship. So if you’re in Boston getting coffee from Sumatra or a car from Korea, keep this in mind when you look at the price.
Especially since California ports refuse to operate 7/24 like they should be.
California ports container throughput has been operating at record high. Republican lies are being broadcast at record highs.
How many ports on the East Coast can accomodate massive container ships some which are over 1000 ft. long on the Atlantic Ocean in winter, the stormiest time of the year? Do those ports have gantry cranes which can unload containers weighing tons or haven't we thought of that yet?
Why don't you ask the gentleman who is opening those ports? Seems to Me he is the authority on Florida port operations and capabilities.
Why are you threatened by the offer?
It is simply amusing how scared the leftist is that a solution to this has been offered and might be accepted.
Why do you clowns fear moving the log jams to open ports?
The opinion of the uniformed.
Dock space is not the issue - many east coast cities have the docks and the cranes to handle these ships, with ease.
The issue is the infrastructure to get the containers out of the ports - primarily, the railroads.
Miami, for instance, does not have a direct intersection with a railroad
Tampa does. So does Jacksonville.
Neither are as large as LAs.
Right along with hurricanes and no covid rules.
In the free state of Florida we have Governor DeSantis who doesn’t put up with all the bullshit about vaccine mandates and masks.
***snip***
Experts fear that Biden’s new mandate will worsen delays at the ports and elsewhere. Jeremy Tancredi, a partner in a consulting firm specializing in supply chain management, told a publication focused on sourcing issues the mandate could have "an undesirable impact" as some unvaccinated workers push back and look for opportunities at companies that are not subject to the same requirements.
Another expert in the field was quoted as saying, "Supply Chains are struggling – high costs, scarce capacity and raw materials, etc. – and the mandate is another constraint to be managed.”
It’s not just firms involved in warehousing and ports that could be further disrupted by the vaccine mandate. Truckers, who already face a serious labor shortage, could also be impacted. The CEO of American Trucking Associations put out a statement saying:
"ATA, its members and our drivers remain committed to delivering life-saving COVID vaccines, but these proposed requirements—however well-intentioned—threaten to cause further disruptions throughout the supply chain, impeding our nation’s COVID response efforts and putting the brakes on any economic revival.”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis vowed Thursday to go to court to fight any vaccine mandates from the federal government.
The Republican governor said the state would not accept the legitimacy of President Biden’s proposal for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to mandate that businesses with more than 100 employees require employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
“We are going to contest that immediately. We think the state of Florida has standing to do it,” Mr. DeSantis said. “We also know businesses that we’re going to work with to contest it.”
For those who will point out that recently Florida had a big problem with COVID-19. ….
DeSantis didn’t panic and lock things down in the recent peak and now it is under control.
I will also point out New York State has 55,447 deaths from COVID-19. Therefore Florida had only 2,264 more deaths from COVID-19 than New York State.
Keep in mind Florida has a larger population than New York State and plenty of elderly retirees who die at a higher rate from the virus than younger people.
