Eversource has asked the state Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to approve an increase that the company said could increase the electric bill for an average customer by nearly 50 percent, or $85 per month, on the supply portion of the bill.

Eversource said, if approved, the increased rates would be in effect from Jan. 1, 2023, through June 30, 2023.

Eversource is looking to increase the Standard Service Rate for residential customers who receive their energy supply from Eversource from 12.1 cents per kilowatt-hour to 24.2 cents per kWh, compared to 11.5 cents per kWh last winter, Eversource said.

The company said, on average, an Eversource residential electric customer who uses 700-kilowatt hours of power each month could see an increase of approximately 48% over their current monthly bill – or $85 per month – on the supply portion of the bill.

My local electric company did that and actually got it.


In effect, it's about a 100% increase. It's bullshit!

Let’s realize that every electric utility company in the Northeast does this every single year. Winter Rates are always different than Summer Rates. This is due largely to the added expense of natural gas (the main generation fuel source in the Northeast) in the winter. Eversource is NOT the only company doing this. My supplier, National Grid, is requesting a 65-75% increase.

The doubling of the rate is probably excessive, but I don’t know where Eversource gets it’s power from. As we continue to shut down, limit, or financially punish nuclear, coal and natural gas generation facilities, this will become a fact of life.

Unfortunately there is a shortage of fuel in America, and this is something that Sleepy Joe needs to address.

My grandfather came to this country to seek a position on the ground floor of the then expanding industry of bituminous extraction and transportation.

Maybe its time to restore this industry to its former greatness. Either that or import a lot more sheep so we can at least have warm socks and feet.

You don't expect him to address the shortage when democrats did so well during the midterms after all the other shortages, like with baby formula, etc. and economic misery.

They no longer have to work to get votes. Why that is, is for you to decide.

And yes, it is pretty scary to know they can now inflict hell on earth to the nation and still retain power in a "democracy"
