Escaping Christianity

God has nothing to say to you because you are not listening. God does not stay where He is unwanted.

I was raised in a religion free home. No Church, no Bible, no God, I was in my 40s when God decided I should be a believer. When God decides to pay attention to you there is a world of hurt in your future. My greatest fear today is that God will leave me basically the way He left you.

If atheism is your path follow it boldly without fear.

I will do 100% of everything God tells me. I will do 0% of what others tell me God wants me to do. Does that make any sense? I won't be duped by humans.

God talks to you?

He never has, not one word.
Do you believe the Bible is the Word of God and Jesus is the Word made flesh?

No. If you were honest you would answer no as well.

Humans make a conscience effort to believe absurd things just to gain the benefits of believing the absurd idea. There is no way you believe the beautiful stories in the Bible to be true. That's silly and you know that for a fact. On a personal level ask yourself why you choose to be dishonest. I don't mind you lying to me and to others but stop lying to yourself. You know that shit is impossible. Using a faulty foundation for your basis for logic sets you up to make bad decisions and bad judgements. Be honest. Your deserve to gain maximum capacity from your brain. Treat it right.

Hard wiring your brain to value unrealistic information is a recipe for disaster. Your internal mechanism will be rewarded for believing more lies. This makes you extremely vulnerable to be manipulated politically and even financially.

There is direct correlation to right wing conspiracy theory but jobs and religious nuts. Just observe your surroundings here in America.
Do you believe that there is a Creator, an Almighty God?

No but I consider it as a possibility. Nobody knows how we got here. When I say nobody what I mean is nobody.

I'm not arrogant enough to say anything with certainty. I'm open to receiving the truth but I find the odds against me. I believe I will die without knowing if there is a god or not.
Ok, so you're an agnostic.

I abhor the term agnostic. I consider myself an atheist. By definition every human being is agnostic. Theism and atheism is about your belief. There is evidence for neither position. That means we are all agnostic. The term agnostic is so neutral that it is meaningless.

Why did you ask if I was agnostic?
I didn't ask if you are agnostic, I stated you're an agnostic. You're own words are the definition of agnostic. I know there is a Creator, Almighty God. You can believe whatever you want and so can I.

You believe in God. I believe their is no God. Those are beliefs. Neither is a claim in certainty. By definition we are both agnostic. Neither one of us know the truth but you can believe what you want and so can I.

You don't know what I have experienced.

You don't know what I have experienced.

No. I do not know what you have experience nor will I ever know what you have experienced. That is extremely problematic. We have both experienced the sun shining on our face. We can agree that the sun exists. We have both experienced the wind blowing on our skin. We can agree that wind exist. You have experienced the miraculous existence of God. I have not. That forces me to rely on the honesty of your testimony but allows you to bask in the comfort of knowing the truth. That gives you an advantage over me which invokes a feeling of jealousy and animosity. By the rules of human nature I am inclined to call BS on your claim of experiencing God. If I accept your claim then I am admitting that I am inferior to you. Humans do not like to do that. Whether true or false, you create animosity when you assert to a first hand experience with God.

What is the details of your experiences that you were referencing?

I was born an American in the 20th century. I do not know how to view the Bible as a person from another time or locality. What suggestions do you have?
Old Testament: Commentaries from those who know Hebrew; Commentaries from Rabbis of earlier times.
New Testament: Commentaries from those of earlier times; etymology of words. Also, commentaries of those who know Greek and/or Latin.
Read about Biblical cultures; study the histories of Biblical times.

It is no advantage. Jesus knew what he was talking about when he said, "Blessed are those who have not seen yet believe." Experiences of God come with a great burden. All you are admitting is that you are more blessed than I which, according to your philosophy, makes me inferior to you. Hmm. I guess that means in order for you to remain superior, you won't be seeking any experience of God. ;)

? Can you elaborate ? Feeling good is not the Holy Spirit. I feel good sometimes too.

lol Very clever but I honestly seek nothing. If God wants to talk to me then He can find my address on google. I will listen to him just like I would listen to a vacuum cleaner salesman that knocks on my door. I actually might listen a little more intently with Him being God and all. I would go visit God if He existed. Honestly, there has been at least a hundred times in my life when I could have used His help. It was possibly more than a hundred.

I seek nothing. God knows where I am if He wants something from me. If He doesn't want anything from me then every thing is A okay.

See, when you say stuff like this, it only discourages me from continuing with this conversation. Educate yourself, and perhaps we can continue this conversation later.

The Bible reveals that 'The truth will set you free.' If one feels imprisoned, lost, or uncertain, he likely doesn't have it...

I was raised in church, married a Christian, raised my kids in church and currently teach Bible at a Christian school. At the end of this school year (May 2020) I plan to resign as a teacher and stop attending church for one full year. At the end of that year I plan to have my name removed from the church role and afterwards make my atheism public. I love the philosphy, ethics and the culture surrounding Christianity. I just can't live a lie any more. It just can't be healthy. This invisible and silent God dude offers me nothing. I love the Bible and learn a lot from it but the God dude in that book either doesn't exist or has no interest in me. Church attendance is more burdensome than it used to be. I learn more from the Bible studying independently. Kindergarten might be fun for a 6 year old but is painfully boring to a 40 year old.

Any questions? I have lots more to say but I already feel like the post was too long.
You are the perfect libber wacko now!

You sure are judgmental. What denomination do you belong to? Some Christians are well educated. Others, not so much.

Jesus was very judgmental. He told the woman at the well to "Go and sin no more".

You're insinuating that being judgmental is a negative. It's not. Christians are taught in the Bible to judge everything by the Word of God. Perhaps you're confused.
