I have suffered from severe depression for 25 years, although I have been quite healthy my entire life. My wife and best friend, especially my best friend, have had numerous physical difficulties for several years. We don't talk about this in depth, nor has it ever even developed into a conversation, but I wish it could.
It is probably impossible to compare physical pain with the hurt that originates from depression. One way to lessen pain is with distraction, and maybe a story or two here might be good.
