While I make no claim as to the veracity of the many statements in the OP, to any out there with a genuine interest to know more about the discovery of species and the real role of Darwin owe it to themselves to learn more about Alfred Russel Wallace. Years ago, I caught an hour long special about him done by no less than David Attenborough for a BBC special that I have saved on hard drive, and I highly recommend watching it. PBS I think must have carried it.

I don't have the hard drive handy to look it up at the moment, but doing a little research on the web, it may have been either 'The Forgotten Story of Alfred Wallace' by Attenborough, or perhaps 'David Attenborough's Life Stories Series Two - Wallace'.

I did find this article on the web which at least mentions or corroborates some of what I've said along with Attenborough's own efforts to help get Wallace the recognition he deserved in finally getting a statue made of him, as well as some of the foibles in the science field and Nobel prizes which tend to end up excluding people giving preference to fewer or one for the credit in discoveries, as in the case of Peter Higgs:
