The opposition to black reparations is based on sheer racist hatred. Precedents have been set as other groups who have been harmed by the government have received reparations. As for the tired worn out excuse of “why should I pay for something I did not do,” here is an example of reparations made in modern times for things done by past generations.

I am quite sure no one living in 1980 was alive when the U.S. government made the Fort Laramie treaty with the Sioux Nation or were participants in Custer's violation of that treaty. Nor were they alive when President Grant decided it was OK to let settlers and people prospecting for gold trespass into land promised to the Siou,x thereby violating the treaty. No one in 1980 was alive when the U.S. government decided to take the land from the Sioux by military force. No one in 1980 was alive when the U.S. government decided to cut off supplies they promised the Sioux as a condition for their surrender after whipping the U.S. Army at The Battle of Little Bighorn. However in 1980, the government of the United States decided reparations were due to the Sioux Nation for what was done to them in the 1800s. They awarded the Sioux nation 105 million dollars..

You have obviously never participated in sports at any level. Participation rate among minorities is not the issue nor is parental support. African Americans tend to be better performers in certain sports than whites even as inexperienced young kids. It has nothing to do with their parent’s involvement, or lack thereof. Once they reach middle school, the difference becomes more stark and it continues to increase in high school and college. Of course there are exceptions.

That aside, why aren’t those greedy NFL and NBA owners cherry picking the inferior white athletes to pay millions? If they were racist, as you proclaim all white men are, they wouldn’t care who the best players were, just that they weren’t paying an African American millions of dollars over a their favored race. As it turns out, the owners want to win, to make even more money, just like CEO’s and most hiring managers who are often graded on the performance of the people they hire, you know, like coaches.

Nor does merit. This whole DEI argument is based on the claim that competency and merit are passed ver because of color. Competency and merit do not mean white. Everybody white is not always the best qualified. It's never been that way even when whites were allowed to exclude us who were not white by law. The only reason why so many fields are dominated by whites today is due to the exclusion in the past, not superior white competence or merit. This current administration is just another example of 249 years of unqualified whites, specifically white men, who have been put in high offices over far more qualified people of color.

It was signed by a man who has nominated Pete Hegseth, an understudy Fox News host, to run the Department of Defense. Hegseth's only prior administrative experience comes from running two small-time charities into the ground, resulting in his removal from leadership. This ode to the value of skills and knowledge comes from the same half-literate president who also nominated Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to run Health and Human Services, even though Kennedy claims cognitive decline from a brain worm and also refuses to accept the overwhelming scientific evidence showing that vaccines are safe and effective. The only reason the alleged testament to "merit" is even readable is because someone other than Trump wrote it. The "merit"-loving president famously can't get through a 240-character social media post without multiple grammatical errors and misspellings.

All three of these men embody the concept of incompetence, but they are white, straight and male. When Trump or any MAGA devotee is talking about "merit" or "excellence," that is what they mean: whiteness, straightness and maleness.

And the more incompetent or ignorant the straight white man is, the more he is held out as the exemplar of "merit" in MAGA-speak. For all the talk about opposition to discrimination and belief in a "colorblind" society, the actions of MAGA show that their true goal is reserving better jobs and opportunities for straight white men, while relegating women, LGBTQ folks and people of color to underpaid and lower-status employment.

Yes, I remember those guys who were HS Athletes... they were still wearing their Letter Jackets in their 20s when I was finishing up College.

The problem with your argument (often made by racists) is that if Blacks are better at athletics, than dammit, whites must be better at the brain stuff!!! It's the same argument made by slaveholders who claimed that the plantation system was the natural order of things.

See, you missed the point entirely. When only 2% of HS Athletes get to college and only 2% of college athletes get to the NFL or NBA, that's not a system of rewards, it's a system of exploitation. ( I should point out that the NHL and MLB don't bother with this charade. They go to foreign countries, find promising talent, and bring them over.) Especially given that an average player only has a career of a couple of years. Again, I go back to the whole thing about concussive head injuries. (I'm sorry your district in Hooterville couldn't afford helmets, Cleetus!)

Are all white men racist? Not as openly as you and Hector12, but there most certainly is an inclination to favor people who are like yourself, which is why white privilege is a thing. Right now, I'm working on a resume for a girl who has no experience, but she'll probably get the job because her mother works there. Not really racism, but the privilege of "I've got mine!"
