Practically everything we enjoy as a comfort was done mostly on the private side of inventiveness and desire. Packaged candy, pastries, cookies, pretzels chips, etc. all from hard work and competition to make, produce and improve a product. And many of the men involved were cutthroat. The oil industry was no different and today is not that different most likely. There are a lot of views on it. They take a10% profit no matter the cost of oil. With little interference from outside sources, it runs smoothly. Wars as an example or governments that hamstrung the industry as another.
