America’s #1 Bad Christian, Eric Metaxas, told Trump “I’d be happy to die in this fight. This is a fight for everything. God is with us”

The election was stolen but violence is not the proper remedy

Well, I kinda think that is half right.
But 'violence not the remedy' is sorta like a Captain Obvious moment. No disrespect intended.

More substantively, why does the poster say the election was stolen?
Whaddya got that proves your assertion?

Does the poster have proof that Don Trump's team of 'Elite Strike Force' lawyers weren't able to convince 60+ courts/90+ judges to think was, ummm, tractionfull?

Batter up, Mac.

"he who is humble will be exalted, and he who is exalted will be humbled!" - Eric Metaxas

I thought it interesting that the southern black Christian response to Trump Christianity (an oxymoron illustrated by the OP) is that it is "white christianity." Here in the South, that is a reference to white's using scripture to first justify slavery and later to justify segregation. There were very few white christians who opposed that misuse of faith. Whether or not that criticism of Trump christianity is fair might be debated, its not debatable that Loeffler's campaign against Warnock was a direct attack on MLK, jr's legacy and teaching.

"when you have the power from God to help your country, you must make the sacrifice and use that power" - Eric Metaxas

Do you hold this "Eric Metaxas" as some authority?

As a Catholic, I sure don't. He sounds rather unhinged.
I'm episcopalian not catholic, but I noticed Metaxas' white protestant/anti-classical chrisitanity approach too. America's protestant rejection of classical christian doctrines, and our ability to "reformat the message" to fit various moral dilemmas is one characteristic of our society.

I don't think all Trump christians (again an oxymoron) are alike, but generally I agree. I doubt may of the people involved in the insurrection and attempted coup were those who believe Trump is unrepentant sinner but used by God to stop abortion and the secularization that requires christians to fund it and other morally unacceptable reproductive issues. Imo those people are deluded and sinning via hubris, but I doubt many are violent ... or those who are have already been identified as possible terrorist threats of abortion providers.

But I don't see any difference between the QAnon conspiracists who see Trump's defeat as a jihad and the Klan guys of the 1960s in Birmingham and similar places.

don't mind the hyperbolic headline, this is great!

from the interview...

Metaxas: I wasn’t in D.C. for the Capitol riots. But I was blown away at how instantly anybody who supported Trump—which is, you know, half the country—was demonized as potential white domestic terrorists. I just thought, Holy cow. What am I, in Nazi Germany? This is really sick. That’s not what we do in America.

You have to forgive me. Part of the reason I bring up Germany, always, is because I spent a huge part of my life studying that period. I wrote a 600-page book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

We can’t allow people to be silenced. People immediately say, “You bring up the Nazis? That’s out of bounds.” But it’s the principle of the thing. When you start pushing people around and telling them what they can say—and they better say, “Heil Hitler,” loudly—that should be a warning sign.

The media landscape was not what you just described. It was an absolute pile-on. You’d think somebody had clubbed a senator to death or something. I was just scratching my head, trying to make sense of whatever happened, if we even know what happened. There are enough questions that it’s so confusing. They were acting like people were shot.

Green: Some people have argued that the reputation of Christianity has been damaged by evangelicals’ wide support of President Trump. I take it you don’t agree with that.

Metaxas: I think that’s preposterous! Of course not. That’s just such a silly thing. The idea that I’m supposed to bury all of my thoughts for the hope of perhaps persuading somebody in the future that Christianity is palatable or something—Christians have traditionally stood up for human rights! When you stand up against the slave trade, you become incredibly politically unpopular. I mean, Wilberforce was totally demonized in his day. But he was doing what he felt was the right thing. What kind of a Christian would he have been if he said, “Well, I don’t want to be divisive”?

Green: Do you believe that Joe Biden is the legitimately elected president of the United States?

Metaxas: No. He is the president. But there will always be an asterisk next to him for me until—if—things are clarified.

Green: Do you pray for him?

Metaxas: Oh, yeah. I take all that stuff seriously, you know? When Jesus tells us to love and pray for our enemies, it’s not to pray that they succeed. It’s to pray for them as a fellow human being.

Hope he gets his wish then!!!!

God is Love. Love is God

So why did God choose such a hate filled asshole like Trump to lead this country?
Christianity was a part of most people many decades ago in this nation. By degrees. It wasn't part of the government per se. But part of what made up people who made government. In each person. Different denominations of Christianity had their views of who was the best or right. That has been reduced but is still apparent. In the early 1970's, the changeover occurred. We went from a majority God fearing type nation to a secular self important individual one. From foundation to living for the day. And with it many big Churches have sold out. As the years have gone by, our nation has moved from excellence in a dominated white culture with white bums as employees to quotas driven on pure equality that has many bums of all cultures and genders. Trump was not a religious man. Trump was the result of men and women who were elected and became self serving with their programs and agendas and did not have the courage to fix their mistakes. The federal government is a dozen times larger then when LBJ became President. The state, city and local governments are a couple dozen times larger easily. Progressive Socialists promised answers. And only some of the expected improvement because of the massive increases in taxes has occurred. Trump was not liked by many of his voters before he ran. His programs resonated with people. Programs that were not extreme. But are now. You will see....

"white" how is race an effect or affect of change in society? It's your choice of the word. What is the effect of race on religiosity or a "moral life"?

Not sure what most of that means, but an interesting take, thanks for posting it.

Gee willikers, this is an old thread, as such things go.
Still, there are some morsels to pick through.
Like a dumpster dive, I suppose.

I am sympathetic to the poster Lass, and GMC.
The Times ain't the Enquirer, I get it.
Their words often have more than two syllables, and the paragraphs require attention.
So, it is really aimed at a certain demographic. I don't know much about such things but I expect the Times assumes their readers have a competent education and want to know about issues of the nation and the world. Issues beyond which celebrity is doing whatever to another celebrity.
So, if one is in the HoneyBooBoo demographic, the Times may seem boring to you.

BTW, for those who currently hate the New York Times, I'd offer a couple of suggestions:
1. Try a 'taster' subscription. Like maybe their 'Weekender'.....where you get the Saturday and Sunday editions. You can get that as a delivered paper; or, you can just get it digitally (much cheaper). Personally, I like that big honkin' Sunday paper edition as it provides reading fare for almost a week.

But, maybe Lass & GMC don't read that much?
OK, check out to see if there is a podcast edition where you can merely listen to the Times.

A second alternative, if you hate the Times.......then try a taster subscription to the Washington Post. Check out Amazon, they sometimes have real bargain deals (you do know, Bezos owns both?)

"Qanon is a liberal lie"
Ouch! That will put you in direct conflict with Marjorie Taylor Greene.
So do this: Write her office. And tell her the libs are zoomin' her and her cohort in Q.

Write here: Representative Green, PO Box 1527, Rome GA 30162
Let the forum know what kind of response you got.
K?

ps.....also, another avenue for you to pursue: PM the local avataree, 'Rancid'. He seems fluent in Q's focus on Adrenochrome and pedophilic cannibalism. ( 'pedophilic cannibalism'.......I honestly never knew those two words could go together. Does it remind any of the Q-adherents here of, say, 'veal'?)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"the Virgin Mary created 2 people: Jesus & Donald Trump!"

You know, I always read bromance's stuff.
I'm pretty sure he is zoomin' both sides of the aisle with his stuff. Like Puck. Or Alfred E.
But, dammit!........it is fun.
In sort of a slyboots winkin' way.

Anyway, that's my opinion.
