Agriculture Secretary - ‘Next Step’ Is to Make ‘Everyone Reapply’ for SNAP to Ensure Integrity

Another problem - beyond the dead people and illegals and double-dippers - is that the SNAP amount is too much. The name of the program is “Supplemental,” yet Mama and her four illegitimate kids are getting so much that they have money for junk food - and still have left over. In the meantime, the four “dads” are off the hook.

I just went shopping for some basics for the week - it was enough for seven dinners and seven breakfasts: I got chicken, ground beef, a piece of raw salmon, a couple of bags of frozen veggies (buy one, get one free), a package of cantaloupe, some chicken stock for soup and two cans of soup (also buy 1, get 1), a package of English muffins, cheese, a package of six eggs, and two little yogurt cups.

It was around $40.

Gladly after Trump claws back the $7 trillion he gave away during covid & the $3 trillion housing / bank bailout from Bush.
Exactly! - Those 2 Republican Bailouts cost more than 100 years of SNAP for the poor. They have a plank in their eye screaming about the splinter in the poor.

Marilyn

Why did you give my above post “fake news”? I DID go shopping and spent $40 for a week of dinners and breakfasts.

And we DO overpay the irresponsible women who don’t bother with birth control and have one illegitimate kid after another. Sorry…..but a 25-year-old with four kids under six does not need $1100 a month as a “supplement” when the four fathers are not paying in a cent of child support.

The way to reduce SNAP expenses is to force deadbeat fathers to pay $150 per month for each child they’ve fathered.

great ******* idea
An even better idea would be to just give them the food, purchased at mass discount by the state every week rather than letting them pick what they want.

My sister-in-law, who gets SNAP says her kids won’t eat that food. I told her they will when the option is starving.

.

Yeah, we grew up that way. If we didn't eat what was served, we weren't hungry.

I like that idea. The state can just deliver big boxes of their monthly food allotment at their doorstep.

Sort of like when I tried Nutrisytem when I wanted to lose 10 pounds. (warning: yuck.)

No. Make them come get it on a weekly basis. Gives them an incentive and if you give them a monthly allotment it’ll be gone in 10 days.

Correct, but with some exceptions: Elderly over 75 and disabled get deliveries. In fact, that’s who SNAP should be limited to in the first place.

That’s how I grew up. My 3 day battle with a portion of corned beef and cabbage is still legendary in my family. As is my brothers salted milk incident.
.

Yep. I can still see that pancake sitting there on that plate.

Another spelling nazi rears it [sic] head [sic]

Oh well [sic]

I know how its spelled but here I usually dont [sic] bother [sic]

And yes, “dont” [sic] should have an apostrophe also [sic]

Lazy or stupid, which is it?

I just went shopping yesterday & your fictional prices are way off. Those items you list cost nearly double in a real store with real portion sizes, taxes, condiments, spices & salt to make the meals. The average home-cooked meal cost about $4.25

Even your fiction of 14 meals for $40 comes to $2.86 per bland meal + tax. Yet you people complain that SNAP paid a struggling Mother + her 4 dependents $1140/mo = $2.53 per meal. WTF is wrong with you?

She has to make 15 per day = 450 good healthy meals a month with much less & pay all the extra housing, utilities, clothes, medical, transportation, education & insurance that goes with a growing family of 5.

Giving children junk food all the time just creates another generation of 400lb obese kids who will soon need SNAP. Poverty should not be rewarded, it should be motivating to get out of poverty. Moreover, some of these SNAP recipients get so much money that they sell off their SNAP benefits at a discount for cash. The system is FUBAR and needs an overhaul by anyone who is not a democrap.

You're 249 years too late.
Two words

"drones" and "A.I".

The big military companies are going to need to get creative and accept lower profits and/or larger volume of newer, more flexible offerings.

I suspect that the U.S navy may be in line for more resources over the air force.

That's no excuse! Government must slash that money funneling behemoth. US military wasted $20 million per drone that were inferior to Ukraine's cheap $400 drones.

The largest problem are government bailouts & government backed loans. The last 2 Covid & Bank Bailouts cost more than 100 years of current SNAP program.

Why is there even an Ag secretary? As if farmers don't know how to farm.

I’m well aware. You can’t shake a branch in my wife’s family tree without finding someone getting handouts from the government.

Here's another idea: Give peace a try. How much did it cost the US for 20 years in Afghanistan, and for what? Maybe we need smarter people working on genuine diplomacy rather than dipshit neocons instigating more forever wars that cost trillions. And WTF is wrong with Trump lately? Why is he caving to the neocons this term? If we can't win a war against a few thousand goat herders in Afghanistan how are we going to win wars against Venezuela and Russia? I think America's politicians need to lay off the Meth for a bit.
