Unions were defeated and many Americans make a lot less because of it, enjoy little or no protection at work from abuse, harassment, or outright termination, and the companies by and large only care what the stock price is...not if their employees are doing well enough to survive. So if it comes down to massive layoffs or a cut in pay ROI...massive layoffs are almost always done. Blaming free trade (which allows your company to sell products elsewhere) is dumb.
