I just went shopping for some basics for the week - it was enough for seven dinners and seven breakfasts: I got chicken, ground beef, a piece of raw salmon, a couple of bags of frozen veggies (buy one, get one free), a package of cantaloupe, some chicken stock for soup and two cans of soup (also buy 1, get 1), a package of English muffins, cheese, a package of six eggs, and two little yogurt cups.

The only thing that can solve the drug problem is a decision. People make a series of decisions throughout their lives and those that consistently make good decisions usually go on to have rewarding lives. I did it, and it wasn't even hard. Those that make consistently bad decisions go on to have miserable lives. No one forces anyone to get addicted to drugs and alcohol. Addiction is the result of a bad decision repeated enough times.

I think the democraps are going to regret shutting down the government because they inadvertently put the welfare queens back in focus. I think the federal government should get out of SNAP and transfer it to the states to manage. Same with Section 8 housing. Same with education. Same with a lot of stuff.

A friend of mine from Missouri unknowingly knocked up a girl on prom night, shortly before moving to Seattle repairing aircraft. He herd rumors the girl had said he was one of 6 possible fathers.

A couple years later the state of Missouri forced her to write down all the names of the guys who could be the child's father. By then he had moved to Oklahoma working on jets. One morning he was blocked in by police as soon as he got into his car to go to work. They cuffed him & took him to the hospital & took his blood & dna swabs, the same as they did the other 5 guys she listed.

Sad case, but in most cases the mother knows who the father is. It’s just that the government giveaway system gives her the option to collect taxpayer-funded benefits instead of going after the father.

In the case of the four illegitimate children I know, the mother knows who the father is in each case. She says she prefers to make other people pay (well, she says “govt”) than deal with the a-hole fathers.

She should not have that choice.

I prefer not to pay for others or their kids.

But I'm far more angry that government is handing out money to wealthy donor sharks & their friends. That debt fueled inflation has robbed all the value from our wages & savings & killed our income & jobs. The Poor & elderly should not be suffering because Covid bailout gave this nations wealth away to undeserving smooth talking billionaire swindlers.

Now if you claw that money back so regular people can afford houses, food, healthcare & retirement again, I will be all for cutting off money to feed the poor.

Why do you think it's okay that your government gave our money away to their friends & refuses to claw it back? But but it's not okay that government now doesn't beat all the money out of fathers because the family can't afford anything because of wasteful government debt fueled inflation?

I agree about the elderly. They can’t earn a living at this stage.

But poor, working age adults are in that boat because they made bad, irresponsible decisions. They had babies out of wedlock. They didn’t get job training after high school. In fact, many did not even finish high school.

ANYBODY can move out of poverty by 1) completing high school, b) taking a Pell Grant to get some job training, and c) not having babies before marriage.

So I’m for limiting government handouts. To do otherwise is to remove the incentive to become a responsible, self-supporting adult.

I just went shopping yesterday & your fictional prices are way off. Those items you list cost nearly double in a real store with real portion sizes, taxes, condiments, spices & salt to make the meals. The average home-cooked meal cost about $4.25

Even your fiction of 14 meals for $40 comes to $2.86 per bland meal + tax. Yet you people complain that SNAP paid a struggling Mother + her 4 dependents $1140/mo = $2.53 per meal. WTF is wrong with you?

She has to make 15 per day = 450 good healthy meals a month with much less & pay all the extra housing, utilities, clothes, medical, transportation, education & insurance that goes with a growing family of 5.

Thanks. You will also note that she cries how they will need condiments and spices to make the meals properly! It’s a supplemental program, but we have to provide EVERYTHING…. right down to the $2 bottle of ketchup for the hamburger and $3 bottle of seasoning for the chicken?
