As to the petition to leave the Union.... that is not treason. It is not illegal and it is not unpatriotic. The Supreme Court ruled in 1869 that a State may leave the Union if Congress agrees to let it go. Our Constitutional rights guarantee we have the right to petition the Government for any perceived wrong or slight. One can do that multiple ways. One can call or meet with their Senators or Representative. One can create a petition to Congress or the White House. The petition is not only LEGAL it is with in the requirements of the Constitution as ruled by the Supreme Court.

As to stripping people of their citizenship, sorry the President does not have that authority or power. It would require a Court case on the Federal level and only a very few things can relieve a Natural Born citizen of their citizenship.

So the only absolutely ignorant petition is the one asking the President to take someones citizenship away.

As to the petition to leave? Congress will simply ignore it and rightfully so. Unless MILLIONS sign one it means nothing.

Technically, this is incorrect. The state with the strongest push toward secession is Texas, and this state is the state with it's fiscal house in the most in order. The US would suffer mightily with the loss of Texas. It has the strongest economy, and the most well balanced budget.

It does not, contrary to what many media outlets have reported, authorize the president to indefinitely detain without trial an American citizen suspected of terrorism who is captured in the US. A last minute compromise amendment adopted in the Senate, whose language was retained in the final bill, leaves it up to the courts to decide if the president has that power, should a future president try to exercise it. But if a future president does try to assert the authority to detain an American citizen without charge or trial, it won’t be based on the authority in this bill….


The language in the bill that relates to the detention authority as far as US citizens and permanent residents are concerned is, “Nothing in this section shall be construed to affect existing law or authorities relating to the detention of United States citizens, lawful resident aliens of the United States, or any other persons who are captured or arrested in the United States.”
