Its time to legalize secession.

It's just sad to see this happen, for it even to get this far. At a fundamental level, politics can be about problem-solving. You recognize a problem and work together to solve it. This is basic shit, and it's a goddamn critical skill.

We now have a large segment of the population that lacks that skill, because it has been told it has to "fight", and that other Americans are not co-collaborators, but rather are "evil" and the "enemy" with whom they are at "war".

Our political disagreements should be our strength, but they require communication and collaboration if we want to improve anything. Taking your toys and running away? This conversation shouldn't even be happening.

No need to fight. The federal govt is corrupt and tyrannical. It's just time for states to secede away from that horror show. It's incumbent upon a society to throw away such tyranny and strive for justice and a govt that works for the people.

I prefer getting adults to drop the ego, work together, and problem-solve.

Fighting is for children.

I believe that it's time to create a legal mechanism in the constitution

A Constitutional amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification.

Time to put down the crack pipe son and get real.

Perhaps a loose Confederation of States. With strong state power and a weaker central government. That is what is really wanted. The government uses taxes to create funds to give to states as an example if they follow the dictums from D.C. Which makes the central government stronger among other ways of course. The constitution was created to not have people like Joe in power. It failed.

I would like to point out that seccession is technically legal. The supreme court ruled that states cannot secede on their own, but the states can approve a state's secession.

My idea is to simply create a process and mandatory requirements for this to happen.

I'm pretty sure that is the requirement since there is no mechanism in the Constitution today.
Actually no. When the supreme court ruled that states cannot secede. They stated that states cannot secede on their own without approval, But That they could secede With the approval of the other states.

The reason I suggested a constitutional amendment, Is to create certain requirements that would be mandatory for any legal secession. A state can technically secede if the other states choose to allow it but I want to see them having to do certain things and give certain concessions fore it is allowed, which is why I suggested adding those requirements to the constitution.

Ya, it's a theory, one that has never been tested since the White case after the Civil War.

But ya:
  • State passes a referendum vote by the people.
  • Legislature drafts articles of secession.
  • Governor signs off and transmits it to Congress.
  • The House and Senate take up the matter.
  • <<SNIP>> period of negotiation occurs between House, Senate, and State occur.
  • House and Senate vote on the final legislation, which I would assume would include the conditions & ramifications of secession and a requirement another referendum vote by the States population.
  • Goes to the President to sign.
  • Referendum goes back to the state for approval and the people vote again after being informed of the impact's of leaving the union and an expected secession date allowing time to implement the withdrawal details.

But somewhere along the line above, someone will sue, and so it will go back to the SCOTUS. Which, IMHO, would probably agree that a negotiated mutually agreed upon secession would be legal.

Ending the Perpetual Union would require a Constitutional change. Such an amendment would likely take years even to craft. Passing it is unlikely.
Suicide is the other option.

Let's be honest. No one but powerless back woods hicks are talking about succession. 'merca!!

What people never consider about the idea of secession is that the population of the state that would leave the union will be responsible for paying for absolutely everything within its borders.

Ideally, yes. But we've had sixty years of the GOP's Southern Strategy preaching hate to the right-wingers, and forty years with the Republicans and moderate Democrats trying to make Reaganomics appear viable. But Reaganomics has always been snake oil that's gradually killing off the middle class and creating more and more poverty. Reagan's promised trickledown just ain't happening and hasn't for over forty years.

Keeping the right and left at each other's throats has been extremely profitable for the billionaire class and Big Business. Tax cuts, subsidies, forgivable loans and other federal giveaways to the fat cats have run this country into more than thirty trillion dollars of debt, with no end in sight.

Conservatives claim to abhor socialism, but they have no qualms with the "wealthfare" practiced in our predatory capitalist system. The more federal dollars raked in by the billionaires, the better.
