Was FDR the best President in American history?

FDR was an abomination to the Constitution and free enterprise. His programs lengthened economic problems then and still harm us today. His thirst for world power has been unmatched by any world leader with the possible exception of Hilter.

Really? You rank them lower than Grant, Harding, and Buchanan?
Harding ruled!....Easily top 10!

He had an overall sum total cut in federal gubmint and held Friday night poker parties at the White House.

Teapot Dome wasn't his fault.

how did lincoln get so close to the bottom?

His policies caused wealthy southern plantation owners to start paying their help.

A idea they evidently found abhorrent enough to go the war over.

Was he a muslim too?

didn't he bomb Pearl Harbor ??? hmmm I know he sent a Nazi's loving liberal named Joe Kennedy as ambassador to England. I think Churchill told FDR to send him home or else.

which prez was best??? hmmm can I flip a coin or pick the dog with the least fleas ????

If he was he hid it pretty well, Muslims tend to frown on cigarette smoking and drinking alcohol, not to mention I think FDR would have had some issues kneeling down and praying toward Mecca 5 times a day, so if he was a stealth Muslim he couldn't have been a very devote one.

or how does he rank?

Depends on your definition of "best", doesn't it?

Suffice it to say that I think FDR did a pretty good job of saving capitalism from itself, and gearing the USA up to defeat NAZIism.

If I had to choose a favorite POTUS, I think I'd choose Teddy Roosevelt.

But Teddy wasn't facing the kinds of problems, that FDR faced, so comparing POTUSs, as you are asking us to do, is really an exercise designed to give us a place to wax poetic about what we think the whole point of government is.

Wasn't it?

Here's my pithy theory about govement

The government that rules best rules best.

Aside from that there are no rules about what kind of government is the best kind of government.

Depending on circumstances the best kind of government ranges from totalitarian (say during a terrible diaster) to no government at all (say in a situation where life is so obvious and people so few that no government is really needed).

I have no comprehension problems....And you're still a fake.

I've yet to meet the real libertarian who didn't consider FDR as anything more than the warmongering authoritarian socialist despot he was.

Give it up, Jethro.

And yet you don't have Dubya in your bottom level. :eusa_think:

By the way Elvis, I was right about this thread. :D

Probably one of the most over-rated Presidents in history.. yes... he is credited for efforts during the war and 'ending the depression... but his stances pre-war caused our delay and more bloodshed because of it.. his socialist policies set the precedent and put into place huge governmental elephants that have no place in our government that we cannot easily remove

FDR was doing as much as he could before the declaration of war to help the Allies. Lend/lease, inteligence, financial support..

It was the conservatives who were screaming about staying out of Europes wars and forcing Isolationism

No.... FDR was quite content with his isolationism...

One could even call his 'help' profiteering, if you want to take that path.... FDR almost ensured we did too little, too late

Dumbya is nowhere near the worst, yes he spent a rediculous amount of money on 2 pointless wars, but there are better candidates for 'worst' such as FDR and the nearly half a million Americans he planted, or LBJ and his 57,000 dead, or Woodrow the racist and the 14 points on his head.

No, you're thinking of Hull. FDR did not feel that going to war with Japan over China was worth it. However, he was not about to let Japan take all those resources in the indies so them and Hitler will have a great advantage.

depends how much you like big government. I hate our insane economic system more than the overall size of the gov, so I think wilson is by far the worst president and should have been tried for treason after selling us out to the bankers.

or how does he rank?

FDR was the absolute best president the US has ever had. He is likely to retain that position for all time. Because of FDR, the US government became the guarantor of the general welfare as the Founders intended. FDR made the Constitution work.
So spake our local socialist support group.
Amen.

More than any president, FDR turned the US into the global power we are today. look at where the US was before he took office to where we were when he died.
The US moved from a sleeping giant to a military and economic SuperPower

Definitely one of our greatest Presidents

Look at him, he's proud of the thing that made the USA one of the most hated nations on earth, and the prime reason the USA is a terror target.

What with his magic socialist wand?

Do the American People, individual liberty and capitalism get ANY of the credit in your book? Or does success only come from government authority?
