So it’s not getting more dangerous to be a cop; it’s getting safer. This year in particular is on pace to be super safe for police...
But if Americans falsely believe that police officers are in constant danger, they’re more likely to agree to unnecessary police militarization and unconstitutional expansions of cops’ authority in the name of safety. The impulse there is good—no person of conscience wants police to be killed on the job—but when this decision is made without any basis in reality, it can’t help but have terrible results.
Once again, there isn't a "war on cops"—and claiming there is doesn't help police
