I'm satisfied with the way the ACA turned out. I would think it's those who feel their voice wasn't adequately heard during the legislative process--because those ostensibly representing it refused to help shape the legislation, to the point of rejecting their own amendments in a pointless attempt at obstruction--who should be upset.

Then YOU pay for it....Leave those who are opposed out of your schemes.

I seem to remember the GOP didn't so much refuse to help shape the bill as weren't allowed to.

Nevertheless, getting a few amendments tacked on doesn't mean the rest of the bill wasn't crap.

The GOP were representing their constituents. They owe no allegiance to the Dems. You seem to have a hard time accepting that.

The US federal government is constitutionally obligated to fund the ,military.
There is no provision that allows the government to demand citizens buy a product from the government nor does the Constitution permit the federal government to take over an entire industry( medical care).

Hostage? From what? A progressive/socialist agenda? Tax and spend? Redistribution of wealth? Punishing success and achievement? Creating more dependency on government?
Hiking energy prices to stratospheric levels? Increasing taxes for political purposes?
Taxing business based on carbon output in order to placate environmentalists?
Taxing investment income at the same rate as earnings essentially taxing earnings TWICE at the same rate? Accepting white guilt as a normal idea?

That's why the Dem-controlled Senate is sitting on all the bills the GOP-controlled House sent them -- because they don't want to take a chance that any of them would help the economy, and the GOP could take credit for it.

"Provide" is used for both in Article I, Section 8 in describing the powers of Congress.

"The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States..."
