School Shooter Adam Lanza Used Military-Style Bushmaster Rifle

Adam Lanza used a semiautomatic Bushmaster .223 rifle during his rampage through Sandy Hook Elementary School on Friday, firing dozens of high-velocity rounds as he killed 20 children and six adults, authorities said Sunday.

Lanza, 20, carried "many high-capacity clips" for the lightweight military-style rifle, Lt. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, told The Huffington Post in an email. Two handguns and a shotgun were also recovered at the scene.

... owned by a New York-based hedge fund, Cerberus Capital Management...

The massacre in Newtown is far from Bushmaster's first brush with tragedy. The company's semiautomatic rifles were used in at least four high-profile mass shootings since 1999, including a 2009 rampage that left 10 dead across southern Alabama, and a 2010 shooting spree in Virginia that killed eight people over 19 hours.

Most notoriously, a Bushmaster .223 rifle was used by the so-called Beltway snipers, John Allen Muhammed and Lee Boyd Malvo, who murdered 15 people in 2001 and 2002. In 2004, Bushmaster settled a lawsuit brought by families of the Beltway victims, which alleged that the company failed to take precautions to ensure that its guns did not fall into the hands of criminals.

The company settled the suit for $500,000, but said the settlement was not an admission of culpability.

Serious question - who needs this gun and why?

Or, what about the high capacity mags? for hunting? As in, make sure that squirrel is dead because they charge when wounded?

Tear gas canisters like what was used in the Aurora shooting? Do you throw that out at the home invaders on your front porch?

Point being, I notice that no gun nuts have responded to any of the factual threads.

And, none of the Republicans have extended their sympathy to the families of those killed.

On both counts, WHY NOT??

What are you afraid of?

We already know what the R politicians are afraid of.

Well that traitor Mrs Lanza. She belongs to a teachers union and she didn't buy a Colt. The parent union of Colt manufacturing is the United Auto Workers.
Wait till the teachers union finds out she bought a Bushmaster she'll really be in trouble then. :D

Why are the rw's always so afraid to address real issues?

Because they're wrong and they know it.

She's DEAD.

Jeeezus krist. This is like talking to a bag of potato chips.

In one week. A shooting in Portland, Oregon. A mall, only two dead, gun jammed. A School in Conneticut, 26 dead, 20 children, six adults that tried to protect them. Alabama, shooting in a hospital, 3 wounded. In all the cases, assault weopons used.

The real issue her is that you're an hysterical moonbat, blaming the inanimate object for the actions of a psycho.

Seek some professional help...Seriously.

Fuck you, asshole. With a five shot lever gun, the people involved would have a chance to take down the shooter during reload. With an AR-15, 30 shot clip, 2 seconds to reload.

Time to remove these guns from anyone that is not judged stable enough to own a fully automatic weopon. After all, what is the differance between a fully automatic and a semi that can fire 30 times in under ten seconds. Expecially in a crowded mall, or a school classroom.

Blow me, you delrious old geezer.

The guns were stolen from their rightful owners.

Those guns were irresponsibly stored. And the person owning the gun should own the crime.

A lot of the greatest rights our founding fathers put into the Constitution will be abused by some. It is no reason to restrict those rights to all Americans. We were given the right to bear arms for a reason, and hunting deer wasn't it.

Should we get rid of the right to free speech because we disagree with the Westboro Church?

I tend to agree with a lot of your posts, luddy, but this one is indefensible.

Oh, blow it out your wrinkled up old ass.

The only way guns could be "responsibly stored" to frenzied fear mongers like you, would be in the hands of some gubmint bureaucrat.

What harm could the government do with all of our guns? We will be safe. Trust our government. :eusa_shifty:

First and foremost, sympathy for the families goes without saying, no feeling human would enjoy their pain.

Why should anyone want to own such a gun, can you say because they choose to exercise their right under the 2nd Amendment. Do I expect you to understand that, not really, because you have no real understanding of the purpose of that amendment.

What I find so funny the left thinks they have such clean hands in all this, yet the policies you have advocated for more than 40 years have probably as much responsibility in crimes like this as any Constitutional rights we advocate. How about we take a serious look and the removing of discipline from schools to start with, then move on the teaching kids there are no losers, then on to your philosophy that the wholesale killing of the unborn is a choice and it's perfectly OK to hire a politician to steal stuff that you would go to jail if you did it yourself. The left has to take responsibility for the devolving of the values of this nation in the name of so called progress and then you sit back and try to blame others for the results. Give me a freaking break. This is what you get when you start blurring the lines between right and wrong. I really hope your proud of your accomplishments.

So,...you're arguing that if the man in that picture had a .223 caliber rifle, he could defeat those 4 tanks?

If the US government ever wanted to unleash its fury on the American people, the 'war' would be over in a few days. Our personally owned Bushmasters would be no match.
