How Much Should A Teacher Get Paid?

How's $7.25 hr sound, for everyone. Seems to be what certain Governor's are aiming for.

I've seen "Merit" based promotions in action, and it looks something like the following.
A. Brown Noser
B. Suck Up
C. (Y) Kisser
D. After Hours Specialist

As far as I'm concerned you can take "Merit" based promotions and shove'em, unless of course I'm the BOSS, then I'm all for it.
No they're not, but nice try!

Damn, the failures by the left and union tools up here this evening is epic!

The meltdowns are entertaining also.

Merit of accomplishment Shithead...MERIT...

So who was cutting your pay & benefits tits, when you made all this merit and accomplishments?? Or is that something reserved for others, huh tits?

Really? And you base your assertion that "certain governor's [sic] are aiming for" that on what, precisely? Where has ANY governor suggested that all teachers, let alone everyone, should get $7.25 an hour?

As for your estimation of merit-based promotion, why does it sound to me like someone who has a crappy job, does a crappy job at it, and is bitter and envious toward his co-workers who are doing better than he is? :eusa_whistle:

So shintao, what do you think about my idea to give teachers a 1% royalty on the future earnings of their pupils?

Should work out pretty well over time. They would be like insurance agents.

I think it should be 5%, and as a bonus, not wages and benefits, which I feel corporations should be responsible for paying, seeing they are the benefactors of education.

The bonus incentive would make them work harder to insure every student had a maximum of knowledge between his ears.

Wisconsin Teachers: Accept Cuts or Be Fired
Fail.....Show us where they are taking away their pay and benefits.

he can't. NONE of them can. They just don't want the gravy train of reward for medicrity to end...much less be responsible for their bennies as the rest of the TAXPAYERS have to be...
This is what it's going to boil down too T........The union is going to play hardball. There is going to be a hell of a lot of their members receiving pink slips. They will then be collecting unemployment at a fraction of their pay because the union chose to play hardball, and screwed 'em over. The union will declare victory. They won't be collecting dues. And the more their members sit there and stew, particularly after the unemployment bennies run out, they're going to realize that the union basically fucked 'em over by playing hardball with a softball bat.

About sums it up...and those that receive the slips wilol continue to blame the wrong people including themselves.

Obviously some people must of worked their whole lives with blinders on to have not seen the "Merit" based promotions in action, that I have mentioned above. You actually presume to tell me that those type of promotions don't happen in the work place?

O and btw, I'm doing quite well in making a living, and have worked hard at getting to that point.

No lazy freeloading bum, welfare type recipient waiting for a handout here. You'd have to look elsewhere for that.

What?! You mean teachers aren't doing their absolute best already "for the children"?!

Ohhhhhhhh, so now you want bonus incentives too.

Fuckin' LMAO!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

The funny thing is, you fuckin' people have been claiming these teachers are so great, but now they need incentives to perform.

Make up your damn minds, ya' dumbasses!:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

A bonus for WHAT exactly? Mediocrity? Businesses are in the business for profit...and if they profit everyone does...REAL 'Spreading the wealth'...

Not demanding it for non-performance as you seem to portend. Mediocrity isn't profitable for anyone in any sector of society.

So, show us where they are proposing cutting their paychecks & benefits.

You're making the claim......Prove it........The balls in your court.

Until you do, you're lying.Wisconsin Teachers: Accept Cuts or Be Fired

Coming back and raging, sure as hell doesn't make your point or prove a damn thing.

Wisconsin Teachers: Accept Cuts or Be Fired

STFU! LMAO!!

FAIL: Have reading comprehension boy??

It’s time for Gov. Walker and other governors across America to invoke Ronald Reagan. The message is simple: Accept these modest cuts and end abusive collective bargaining by public employees or YOU’RE FIRED. And be sure to charge the teachers at the protests who hold fake doctor notes with fraud.

You all are demonizing teachers in general. Have you not seen some of the students that they have to deal with day in and day out. These students have no upbringing to speak of, they don't have any respect for their parents, themselves, the teachers, let alone the authority of law.

Their learning should start in the home but it doesn't. But then teachers are expected to come up with some type of miracle when dealing with these students.

Personally I believe the majority of teachers do the best they can with the limitations that are placed upon them by the system.

O, I forgot to mention that society in general could use some "Thump Therapy" it's like milk, it does a body good.

As a psychologist trained in work performance, I could get more out of them. Taking away rewards is taking away the incentives. I would expect less in the future, just from a subconscious loss of self-worth. You don't stick happy people with a stick and think they are going to praise you for it. :poke: I am surprised we are having this discussions of human nature, when you have CEOs getting bonuses & judges claiming they work harder when they are paid better, etc. Somehow there seems to be an intellectual disconnect when it comes to teachers of children?

rdean " At least we know what the right thinks about education and teachers. Or did we already know that? "

Well, we already know in Ohio that Gov Kasich thinks the Police are "idiots" his own words.

Thats what they mean by merit. How much are you willing to suck up to the boss.

I was once at my job preparing taxes for a national company right out of college. Barely made anything. $8/hour. I always picked up extra shifts, always had relatively error free tax returns. Always came dress and prepared for business work (tie and khakis). Thought when the store manager was promoted to area manager that I would get to at least get assistant manager, but the other assistant manager promoted her best friend. I was so pissed.

The republicans talk about "Merit" and "hard work" like thats all you need to succeed in this world. WRONG. You need connections, money and opportunities. Hard work gets you villainized by the right if you look at Wisconsin. David Koch worked hard for his money, he inherited it. Really ridiculous.

No one is demonizing teachers, Junior. We're being mature and realistic about them. Give it a try sometime.

"Oooh, ::sob, sob:: The students are SOOOOO awful." Give me a freaking break. Would it shock you to know that not all, or even most, or even really a large percentage, of schools are NOT in urban ghetto areas? That not all, or even most, or even really a large percentage, of teaching jobs are like the ones you've seen in movies? Even in this day and age, most kids DO have upbringing, and respect, and even manners.

Hell, I actually worked in one of those poor, urban schools in my city. I dropped a girl from the rolls for non-attendance right before Christmas break, and saw on TV a week later that the reason she hadn't been attending school was because she was in jail, being tried for MURDER. And this was a MIDDLE SCHOOL! And still, the vast majority of the kids in that school were reasonably polite, nice kids.

Their learning should start in the home but it doesn't. But then teachers are expected to come up with some type of miracle when dealing with these students.

Maybe we should start with you, so you stop thinking that Hollywood = Life.

The avg teacher pay in my district is 55K. The avg home price is 300K. Its hard for unmarried people.

Marc - I had a professor in grad school who claimed that the public would like teachers paid "slightly less" than the avg salary in the community. Hence - teachers is wealthy districts are usually paid a lot more. (As long as it's less than everyone else). Makes sense.
An honest answer.

So do you think this is a good thing?

How much is a teacher worth in your opinion?

Well, considering the cracker-jack box prize that is a degree in "Education" and the most days off of any profession outside of "starving artist" or "working actor":

I'd say forty or fifty thou a year, free pension, mostly free health care, no responsibility for the end product and all the free sex with minors you care to have would equal a pretty fair payment.

Oh wait. That IS what public school teachers get!

Carry on you crazy diamonds, carry on.

Ha ha. Guess who is the highest paid public employee in the state of NJ?

Rutgers football coach - 2 fucking million a year!
Does that seem right to you?

NJ sure has their priorities in order.
