GOP Argument Against Extended Unemployment Benefits is Misguided

Only the left can argue what great job they have done righting the economy & employment and then argue that we needs years worth of UI, welfare, food stamps, etc.

I have never been helped by government. Let me say that again... I HAVE NEVER BEEN HELPED by government.

People have helped me. and I have helped people.

Government has never helped me. They only thing they have done, is harm me. I just paid $3,000 in taxes, on my $18K income for last year.

The best thing government could have done to help me, is let me keep that $3,000 I earned.
You are full of shit!

Using the rate for single with no dependents, your income tax on $18,000 income is $803.

Federal income tax $878
Federal Social Security TAX $1164
Federal Medicare TAX $272
Ohio State TAX $284
City Tax $469

Total Tax $3067.

Now out of all of those, most of the City Tax money actually goes to things that benefit me. Road building, police, fire department, sewers and so on, benefit me.

That's only $469 out of that $3067 in tax. Most of the state tax goes to crap libtard projects, as does nearly everything at the Federal level.

Bottom line, You people on the left, screw the hell out of the poor, for the sake of your government program crap.

Isn't it interesting how when a leftist is confronted with the facts, they instantly accuse the people they claim to help of being lairs, even while I have my W-2 sitting 5 inches in front of me.
Social Security and Medicare also benefit YOU, and that is a fact that you seem to ignore. And the Fed keeps you safe from terrorists as well as protects you on the job and makes sure your food is safe to eat and drugs are safe to take when you are ill. You just don't appreciate all your government does for you, and that is your lack, not the government's.

No, they don't. Now you sound like Obama... "People just don't know how much I'm benefiting them." I nearly fell out of my chair when I heard this argument.

Several years back, when I had to go to the Hospital without insurance, the Hospital sent me a bill. Guess who paid that bill, down to the last penny? *ME*. Not Medicare. When I lost my job, and had rent due, guess who went to the 110ºF factory in August, to earn a paycheck to pay that rent? *ME* Not social insecurity.

Where is this magical benefit I don't know about?

The fed has never kept me safe on the job. You are nutz.

Lastly, yes the Federal government does help keep us safe from Terrorism. Tell me... what percentage of government spending, and thus what percentage of my taxes, go to that, verse government hand outs to people who have not worked for my money?

How old are you? SS and Medicare are a benefit for your retirement and as such are a benefit to you even if you are not old enough to benefit today. It is the federal government that requires your employer provide you a safe workplace. It is the government that requires your food producers to produce a safe product, and on and on. Of course if you bdon't work and don't eat than you might be correct that you do not benefit at all from the government. :cuckoo:

There is no possible way that by the time I retire, the benefits of Medicare and Medicaid, or Social Security will be worth what money was stolen by me to fund them.

They already don't cover the costs. Have you been to a Medicaid retirement home? I have. I've been there. I've worked there. It's terrible.

If you depend on government for your health care and your retirement, you are foolish. I've seen the people stuck living off of social security. It's terrible.

Do you know what the AVERAGE Social Insecurity check is to this very day, according to the SS Administration? $1,294 a month. That's barely $8 an hour at a regular job. And for that tiny amount, the system is going broke. The benefits will be cut, and there is no alternative.

Last year, between Medicare and Social Insecurity, I was taxed $1,436. If instead of giving that money to government, I placed it until mutual funds, $120 a month, from 25 to 65, would be $700,000.... but no no, $1,294 a month is so much better than almost 3/4 of a million or so.

In the 1980s, a pilot program was created, where people in specific areas in Texas, were allowed to put their money in private investments. Of course the wonderful freedom loving government liberals, moved quickly to make it illegal for people to opt-out of social security.

Nevertheless, they allowed those who already have, to continue. Numerous research papers have now confirmed the obvious... those in the privatized system get far greater benefits, and far greater controls over their money. People who saved larger amounts, and can afford to collect their rightful retirement funds early, can do so. Even retiring as early as 55, if they have the money saved. Impossible with Socialist Insecurity. Further, the return on that savings for Socialist Insecurity is 60% of what those in the private system earn.

And you want to defend this? Why? Why do you want to harm yourself, and everyone else, with a terrible system?

So you think it's okay that productivity has skyrocketed yet wages have remained flat?

I think people stupid enough to stay in a dead end or underpaid job get what they deserve

You realize of course that since the recession began, there has been an increase in low wage jobs and a decrease in higher wage jobs? ANYONE is prone to low wage jobs if they have been laid off. 5 million people lost their jobs in 9 months.

Perhaps the government needs to create an environment that encourages higher paying jobs to flourish while allowing big business to invest in themselves so they can build and expand. Exactly what proposals have there been presented by this administration to do that?
