Gun Grabbing Nazis have to label semi-autos as 'assault' in order to get emotions on their side, based on a lie.
The AR-15 is NOT an 'assault weapon' as said weapon is not a military grade weapon as it is sold. You have to modify it in some fashion in order to get it to fire semi-auto, which is illegal unless you paid the fees for a license to allow you to own said full automatic weapon.
But the Nazis insist on calling it an assault weapon to play on peoples emotions. That is what propaganda is.
