Not the middle of nowhere
Now the headline here in REALCLEARPOLITICS today is very compelling..............

2017 was the best year ever for electric cars

Conveys the perception of, "WOW.....electric cars are really taking off!!" to the typical bozo in the public!!

Except every year for electric cars is a new record year..........duh. And how many were sold last year?

"199,826—is a significant increase on 2016, itself a banner year for EVs when 158,614 found homes"

2017 was the best year ever for electric vehicle sales in the US

Oh really now?

Except Ford sells more F150 trucks in 3 months out of any year than EV sales combined!!!

:oops-28:Ford F-Series Sales Grow 12.65% To 70,774 Units April 2016:oops-28:

I love the idea, that in the winter time, if you get real cold, when you turn on the heater(electric) your mileage goes way down, but then when it gets real cold, you can get warmed when the EV does this...

Toyota sells 1/2 million Camry's alone every year........yep..........we're real sure Camry buyers are going to dump their cars to go for an unreliable car that costs 10K more and you have no clue whether or not you are actually going to get from point A to point B.:eusa_dance::eusa_dance:

Toyota Camry Sales Figures -

More Camry's are sold in about 4 months every year than all EV's combined. Yuk.....yuk.......EV sales sure are exploding!!:coffee:

Tesla has close to 600,000 Model 3 orders
Submitted by minervo.florida on December 2, 2016

This is based on over $700 million deposits which was recently announced.

That is without 75% of the population not knowing ANYTHING about it.

The model 3 launch is being called the greatest product launch in the history of mankind.

If you have not seen the lines on the first day of orders, I suggest you go to You Tube and search Model 3 lines. Some are
so long it is just astonishing.

Elon will be so far ahead of the completion with his battery factory and plans for a second one that some
predict Tesla will be one of the largest companies in the world in 10 years.

I took pictures from the Santa Monica store on 3/31 and there were over 2,000 people waiting in line 5 minutes before the store opened.

And I'd be surprised if 10% of people have ever heard of Tesla or the Model 3.

People shouldn't wonder why we are "fanbois and gurlz". July 1, everyone is jumping on the bandwagon.

How many people standing in line to order a Toyota they know they will not get for a year?

All the green nutters are all excited about the Tesla line moving forward. But get this........according to Consumer Reports Magazine, Tesla is dead last in reliability.

http://www.roadandtrack.com/new-cars/car-technology/news/a27094/consumer-reports-tesla-model-s-not-recommended-on-reliability/

Quite laughable..........
The approximately 1,400 Model S owners surveyed by CR "chronicled an array of detailed and complicated maladies," the organization reports. The most prevalent complaints had to do with squeaks and rattles from the body, but respondents also mentioned issues that required replacement of the car's electric motors. Warping brake rotors and difficulties with the complex, electrically-operated retracting doorhandles were also mentioned by numerous owners. Other problem areas included inoperable windshield wipers, leaking battery cooling pumps, trunklid alignment, and suspension alignment.

Despite these problems, CR reports that Tesla owner satisfaction is still very high, with a full 97 percent of owners saying they would definitely buy their car again. Surveyed owners also commended Tesla's quick response when cars developed problems: "Almost every survey respondent made note of Tesla's rapid response and repair time, despite the lack of a traditional dealer service network."

For comparison, the all-electric Nissan Leaf, which was rated "above average" in reliability by CR for several years, was downgraded to "average" this year.

Tesla Model S "Not Recommended" by Consumer Reports

Ask the man that owns one. LOL

Tesla Expands Free Towing in North America to 500 Miles.....

So reliable that their towing business is going great guns....

The best way to really jumpstart EVs is to standardize the size and connections of batteries so that they could be easily swapped out at an analogue of a gas station.

The owner of the car wouldn't own the battery, or have to worry about replacement costs.

New battery technology could just be phased in as available. An imbedded chip would record the history and performance.

The initial infrastructure costs would be high but govts love to spend our money through subsidies anyways.

It could be a true paradigm shift.

But really.......c'mon now. Popping up best guess Tesla figures compared to the rest of the industry is like having a best boobs contest and the contestant you support walks out on stage and is flat chested and you're jumping up and down and hooting and hollering for her to win. I mean.............c'mon now.:bye1:

At this rate, it will take 10 years for combined EV sales to equal the amount of Ford F150 trucks sold annually.

Sk00ks..........just keepin' it real in the ENVIRONMENT forum.:coffee:

Not needed. There will be quick charge batteries very soon. The glass solid state batteries developed Bragga and Goodenough will be a reality within 5 years.

Suuuure. And back in 1992 they were predicting every city bus in North America was going to be powered by Ballard fuel cells within five years.

And when were there ever Ballard fuel cells in thousands of homes, as the Powerwall is already. When was there a 100 megawatt Ballard fuel cell balancing a grid? When were there a 100,000 cars built to run on Ballard fuel cells in one year, just by one brand? There is a vast fortune waiting for the manufacturer of a battery that is both cheaper and has a higher energy density. Some with a much higher energy density have already been built in the lab. And the Goodenough-Bragga battery charges far faster than the lithium ion does.

Your cells cant last more than 60 minuets... and then must charge for 18 hours before they can be used again. Cool... or should I say COLD in dead of winter.
