Only 13 cars will qualify for EV tax credits under Biden administration's 2024 rules

I wonder How many people were thinking of buying an EV for the $7,500 tax credit, only to find they're not getting it this year?

More EVs lose US tax credits including Tesla, Nissan, GM vehicles

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Many electric vehicles lost eligibility for tax credits of up to $7,500 after new battery sourcing rules took effect on Monday, including the Nissan Leaf, Tesla Cybertruck All-Wheel Drive, some Tesla Model 3s and Chevrolet Blazer EV, the U.S. Treasury said.

The Treasury issued guidelines in December detailing new battery sourcing requirements aimed at weaning the U.S. electric vehicle supply chain away from China. They took effect on Monday.

The number of EV models qualifying for U.S. EV tax credits fell from 43 to 19. Those figures include different versions of the same vehicle type. Treasury said some manufacturers have yet to submit information on eligible vehicles, which could lead to changes in the list....

The Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model 3 Rear Wheel Drive, BMW X5 xDrive50e, Audi Q5 PHEV 55, Cadillac Lyriq and Ford E-Transit are among the vehicles that fell off the list of vehicles eligible for tax credits....

Ford Motor said last month its E-Transit would lose the $3,750 tax credit, as would the Mach-E and Lincoln Aviator Grand Touring plug-in hybrid, but its F-150 EV Lighting and the Lincoln Corsair Grand Touring retained credits.

General Motors noted all of its EVs would temporarily lose eligibility except the Chevrolet Bolt, adding the Lyriq and Blazer EV are losing the credit because of two minor components."

This sure seems to make Joe an uber-fool
He subsidized production
He subsidized purchase
He drove competition out of the field

AND NOW the monstrous fool is backing down

Congress Authorized $7.5 Billion for E.V. Chargers. After 2 Years, None Are Built.

More than $2 billion has been distributed, but only two states have even broken ground and most states haven't even submitted proposals.

Can anyone guess why that almost had to happen :Here's a huge pot of monye and I want these seriously needed charging stations and 48 states YAWN for two years. C'mon, why did this have to happen? A grammar school kid would know. Do you????

States have to bring plans for money and be approved for funds.

Jackwad

Not all what the change suggests fuckup. Hertz is selling off 20,000 Teslas due to high collusion repair costs and shifting to lower cost ones that temporarily would be ICE vehicles.

Has everyone here missed the fact that the change in who does and does not get subsidies is based entirely on the place of manufacture of their batteries? Joe is trying to help develop American battery manufacturing and stop sending US dollars to China. The people in this thread criticizing him for that are almost EXACTLY the same people who have accused him a hundred other times of being in cahoots with the Chinese. The only conclusion that can be drawn is that those same people are only interested in attacking Joe Biden and have no interest whatsoever in EVs, EV tax breaks, trade with China or pretty much anything else. They hate Joe Biden because he beat their orange god. Period.

Not me. Trump did the same shit. It doesn't work. History has shown us this, over and over again. Free trade is a better path forward. Depending on your goal. If you're just trying to stroke your lobbyists, subsidies and tariffs can be good politics.

The tax credit never saved anyone any money anyway.

Companies like Ford raised vehicle cost by 7000 dollars when the tax credit was announced citing increased cost as the cause. So they knew people would buy one to save 7000 dollars so ford raised the price by 7000.

Not me. Trump did the same shit.
When? I hope you're not thinking about his incredible tariff strategy. Trump never did anything to help EV manufacturing in this country. His tariffs were intended to reduce our dependence on Chinese goods but the added costs were all paid by Americans.
It doesn't work.
His tariffs certainly didn't. But no one has ever done what Biden is currently doing here.
History has shown us this, over and over again.
No, it hasn't.
Free trade is a better path forward.
If I go through your posts here, will I find any that suggest we shouldn't be doing business with China even if it does save us money?
Depending on your goal. If you're just trying to stroke your lobbyists, subsidies and tariffs can be good politics.
Subsidies and tariffs, particularly as Trump envisioned the latter, are two very different animals.

Actually,
I understand the Government position about American battery mfg.

However....EVs are not technologically advanced enough due to battery technology being unable to hold enough power for long drives plus require twice the amount of time to refuel than petroleum based ICE.

Where I empathize that the desire for the tech to work the demand for the vehicles cannot be coerced...it must be done organically.
Also the technology for hybrid vehicles with "Drive-by-wire" systems are perfectly sufficient and if similar dollars worth of subsidies were placed in hybrid vehicles instead of unfeasible technology then the market would actually work.

There are actual hybrid tractors and 18 wheelers currently outperforming other diesel vehicles in mileage, range, performance, and costs but have received NO Subsidies or Government assistance. The utilization of these vehicles would cut petroleum demand significantly and have lower maintenance costs. (Because the technology has been around for a while and ruggedized) However these types of vehicles are extremely difficult to purchase and are on long backorder because of the lack of government support.

Also hybrid tractor/trailer rigs do not need any allowances for being overweight as their tare weight per axle is much lower than a traditional tractor.

Hard to beat what has demand and also works.

The government shouldn’t be giving tax credits in an attempt to manipulate the decisions of free people.
more the market

it's either carrot (tax creds) or the stick (carbon tax)

and every single time they go down either road, there are consequences that almost anyone can see.......except them

It is not the governments business to be giving tax credit so people can buy an EV
It is also not the governments business to be building charging stations for evs, back when gas car were coming out the government was not building gas stations that is for private business to do.

Actually, it is the governments business to offer incentives to induce people to chose better options for society.

And second, the government did subsidize gas stations and built roads for cars to travel on.

Carbon tax is practically a tax on breathing. We are led to believe that the carbon dioxide we humans produce is somehow harmful.
Who convinces? Adherents of the death cult. The same ones who convince us that there are too many people living on the planet.

Cars became a better option to purchase over horse and buggies....that's why they succeeded. And instead of seed and feed stores we got gasoline stations.
