Deal made- gov. stays open..

When push came to shove, it looks like the GOP wasn't going to follow through with another shutdown. $38 billion is certainly more than what has been proposed by both sides ($33 billion from the Dems, $30 billion from the GOP a few months ago) recently.

I just hope that Congress will not squander this opportunity to have a serious discussion about the budget without the hammer of a government shutdown swinging over the heads of federal employees. Wishful thinking perhaps, but I suppose we'll see.

*sigh* Modbert, this started at 100 billion.

Don't confuse him with facts, it hurts his brain.

I thought Boehner and the GOP came out of it pretty well, they got historic spending cuts from a democratic Senate and WH and avoided a shutdown that many might have blamed them for and used against them next year. This was it, as good as they were going to get, and besides it showed Boehner has enough control over his caucus to make them very formidable in the budget talks for FY 2012. Looked to me like they (GOP) were dealing from a position of resolute strength thanks in part to the TP and all those freshman reps.

Thanks, Charlie Brown...:doubt:

Me .. I expect the government to be consistent and screw up constantly...

I'm hardly ever disappointed...

The assholes... sure.. I'm still pissed...

there will never be real cuts. instead of addressing social spending and the military industrial complex, the gop wasted time on NPR and planned parenthood. a bunch of jackasses

They actually plan on raising the Pentagon budget by $6 billion. This, after Senate Democrats offered a deal for defense cuts about $10 billion. That was immediately rejected by the GOP however.

As I said previously, this was never about the money. It was about an agenda.
You were wrong then, showed how wrong you were, and you're still wrong. :cuckoo:

That's your story and you're sticking to it..

Seems like the same story the caving con House leadership will spew as well. It's almost funny they thought they'd be running this show with those idiots Boehner and Cantor at the helm.

Folks, be happy. The Tea Party tried very hard to strangle itself in its cradle this week but, fortunately for it, there was an adult in the room that wouldn't let it. Live to throw a tantrum another day.

Defense cuts...while being embroiled in THREE engagements? The Latest by OBAMA himself? Are you stark-raving MAD?

Of course you are...you're a Statist.

WTF? Why not cut defense? Congress can't stop the President from ordering the military around. But the sure as Hell can defund what he's trying to do with the military. That's the constitutional relationship between the two. If our idiot President is going to continue needless military operations over seas that are helping to drive up our deficits then Congress OUGHT to get tough and make military cuts.

It was a 100 Billion for the GOP

$40 billion

the fed cost $6 billion a day to run.

so they cut just over 1/52 of the total cost. Just over a week.

good lord

the worst part is the left will be crying that we are killing someone b/c of this, knowing full well that our death by crushing debt will be pushed back a whole week.

Do you know, people will still ask me why I quit being a dem, b/c by voting against them I'm voting against my own interest? And when I tell them, that by voting for the interest of the country, I am voting for 'our' interest. I get blank stares most of the time, or some regurgitated talking blather.

Well at least the socialists and the communists that attend liberal rallies will be happy.

The left are all drunks. All of em.

Basically all Kabuki theater. Boils down to the plutocrats wanting to break unions, get fat government contracts, deregulate, lower high end and corporate taxes and fleece the country in general.

And the Corporate Quislings are in the boat for that.

we'll see what the guts are soon...looking for a link. stand by!

here..

ABC News' Jake Tapper reports: A Republican Congressman tells ABC News, "the deal is done." The agreement provides for $38.5 billion in spending cuts over the next six months. The GOP has dropped its demand for an end to funding of Planned Parenthood. So--which party do you think came out on top?

Not bad. They were asking for $31 bil in cuts (an additional $12 bil if they extended the cont. res. for another week) and they came out with $38.5 bil in cuts.

It's a start.

They are, apparently, the biggest cuts in US history.
Good on you Republicans, good on you Democrats...a good day's work done by all...

Yes, the 2012 budget should be interesting. And, the countdown starts to midnight September 31.
