Deal made- gov. stays open..

According to Politico tonight, the Republicans and Democrats reached a deal that prevented a shutdown of the federal government at midnight Eastern.

The deal presumably was to agree on $40 billion in cuts. No word on whether the hotly debated Planned Parenthood funding was part of the equation.

Both sides are taking credit.

I remain frustrated that we have a government run by people who are proud of saving a couple of dollars out of a thousand.

The problem for the Tea Party is having a movement run on perpetual anger. It doesn't work for the socialists. Never mind the fact that the Tea Party has already been co-opted by the GOP and Conservative media.

The media tries to define the TEA Party by the media's terms & paint them as stupid racist neocons. They claim they are co-opted by the GOP. I've got news for them. They don't define the TEA Party. John Boehner & the GOP will soon learn who the TEA party is when they are out on their ass along with the Dem's. Eric Canter will either be the the next Speaker of the House or the Next President.

This election the government is about to learn the definition of spending cuts from the real TEA Party & not some fictional media hype party.

Yup. Looks like the number is much closer to what the Dems wanted than what the GOP was fighting for.

Anybody who voted for this turkey better not count on the tax protest groups, 9/12ers or Tea Partiers come election time.

A coupe of the "nay sayers" should think of running for POTUS and get the election cycle rolling. Obama has... so should we.

We CANT let that fucker win in 2012!

I was hoping that if the Democrats and RINOs could not be persuaded to make an honest effort at deficit reduction that we would let the government close down. We all know that anything essential would keep running and it would be at most for a few days. But I think it would be really good for folks to see that the sun comes up just like always, life goes on just like always, no piece of the sky falls or anything.

Maybe a few more people could be convinced that the government doesn't need more and more money for those non essentials.

Who does? Perhaps the current so-called tea party members of Congress who all got into party line like sheep and voted to continue the Patriot Act? Those tea party members?

If you also think Cantor would be any different from Boehner then you are fooling yourself.

Dems wanted no spending cuts and the Repubs wanted what equals about 1%. Pretty sorry for both sides.

$40 billion

the fed cost $6 billion a day to run.

so they cut just over 1/52 of the total cost. Just over a week.

good lord

the worst part is the left will be crying that we are killing someone b/c of this, knowing full well that our death by crushing debt will be pushed back a whole week.

Do you know, people will still ask me why I quit being a dem, b/c by voting against them I'm voting against my own interest? And when I tell them, that by voting for the interest of the country, I am voting for 'our' interest. I get blank stares most of the time, or some regurgitated talking blather.

Well at least the socialists and the communists that attend liberal rallies will be happy.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. As it is now, however, I see it as a win for Boehner as Obama hadn't wanted any cuts at all; only no more spending. So Obama and Reid caved more than Boehner. Still, I wanted all or nothing at all, but Boehner has more experience and so I will not judge until more details are announced.

Of the $38.5 billion in spending cuts to Obama's original 2011 budget proposal, the short-term stopgap measure contains the first $2 billion and the final budget bill will cut the other $36.5 billion.

I used to be so Pollyanna-ish.

I'm now exploring new lands of jaded never heretofore known.

Hate to say it....You're a fool.

LOL. Yeah I am sometimes. That 'eternal optimist' under my screen name is there for a reason. Hope springs eternal and all that.

But after we sigh and wring our hands and get past the 'told you so's' and shed a tear or two, then I hope we all chuck the rose colored glasses, get mad, and start demanding that our fearless leaders do their jobs. REALLY do them. Not playact at them.

Hmmm. Interesting. You see it as a Boehner win even though the Dems had agreed to like $38b in cuts as a counter offer to the $64b Boehner wanted? But all things considered you may be right. I'm thinking the Dems will be bragging at how they stopped the GOP from cutting this or cutting that and, aided by a willing media, will put a happy face on it.

I hope you're right.

I think most of them are wimps with weak backbones when it comes to doing anything really hard.

Oh well, I have to get to bed and be up at o-dark-thirty in the morning, but will check back tomorrow. Ya'll all have a good night.

You are a statesman. I stop being a republican in 1992. I simple don't see a difference in the actions of either party.
