Just because other nations have a single payer system is not any reason to have it here.
1. Such a system would require a gigantic bureaucracy which means hundreds of thousands of NEW federal employees.
2. Such a system would be horrifically expensive. Existing taxes would have be increased. New taxes would have to be created.
3. The federal government would in effect become the employer of every medical professional, every nurse, even the orderlies.
No person in their right mind would spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on an education plus 10 years of school and residency to become a doctor knowing full well the financial rewards no longer exist.
4 Such a system would put hundreds of thousands workers in the insurance industry out of work as private insurers writing health coverage would have to close their doors.
You don't just get to waive a magic wand and tell 320 million people ,"yesterday you had Obamacare. Today your medical care is free.".....

From where do you get these numbers?...........................Canada has among other issues. A shortage of medical professionals as Canada cannot import enough doctors because Canadians in general have no desire to become doctors. It isn't worth it.

Teh very day the federal government placed al;l these new rules and mandates on coverage, was the day the health insurance and medical care in this country went down the shitter. For it is the federal government that created the hated HMO, PPO and other systems that were 100% unnecessary.
When I was child, I sustained an injury to a finger. it required out family doctor to literally sew the tip of my finger back on.. My mom paid the doctor $40. That's all it cost. We did not need to use the health insurance..Today such a procedure would cost thousands of dollars. Most of it going to pay the system, not the doctor.

The government screws up everything it touches and we sure as hell do not need the welfare queens getting health care paid for by other people. That is despicable.

A real non government interference competitive free market will produce the highest quality health care at the lowest price.

Single Payer or Socialized Medicine will produce an ineffective high cost non responsive system that will be substandard health care. We see that in almost all the countries that have Socialized Medicine.

The VA is a great example of what happens when the filthy ass American government runs a health care system. Veterans die because nobody really gives a shit because after all it is the government.

There is also the much ignored fact that it takes 300 million paying taxes to fund the VA for a million people. And the chief complaint with the military is that it costs to much. Ever wonder why expenses are so high? The VA is part of that expense.

For those that have been in the system, we understand how terrible the care actually is as well. It takes a month to go see your doctor so that he can tell you he is going to ignore what you came in for and that it is all your fault. Then you get some 'vitamin M' - does not matter what the ailment is. That will fix it.

Single payer would be worse.

There would be so much fraud and abuse, it would make the fraud and abuse of the current social safety nets appear mild.

That doesn't matter. The problem with insurance isn't the overhead. It's our abuse of the insurance model. We're trying to use it as a general financing scheme, which is profoundly stupid. Insurance is a hedge against risk. Not a club you join to get access to health care bills.

They don't understand that it is a risk pool where the rates reflect the risk. They think it should be privatized socialized medicine or something.
