Those fearful of our deficits need to consider our total assets as a nation (individual and business) when weighing their significance...

"Above all things, good policy is to be used that the treasure and moneys in a state be not gathered into few hands. For otherwise a state may have a great stock, and yet starve. And money is like muck, not good except it be spread."
-- Francis Bacon; from 'Of Seditions and Troubles'

OK Comrade, let's sell all our houses to the Chinese and move into State-run apartments.

...and it could be so much richer and better, if we limited government and terminated the two political parties.

Try and sell that to the shrinking middle class...

Yes the middle class has been under assault for decades. Obama The Great Divider is just continuing the trend of taking more of their wealth and giving it to the 1%.

Since the 1980s, the MC has seen little growth in wages, but their productivity has sky rocketed. How nice for the wealthy.

Exhibit #2: middle class wage earners have not received any of the gains.Wages as a percentage of GDP have been falling for decades, with occasional blips up in tech/housing bubbles:

1. According to your charts, this "trend" began in the 1960's.

2. How is wealth being "given" to the 1%?

3. Haven't lower wages been been replaced with increased welfare benefits?

4. Isn't this a reason for the declining labor participation rate?

Not only are we not rich, we are in so much debt, our grandchildren's grandchildren's grandchildren will be working for the government debt. Here is why:
I owe you $100.00, and I will pay you in a million seconds. You will receive your money in 12 days.
If I pay you in a billion seconds, you will receive your money in 31 years.
But if I pay you in a trillion seconds, you will receive your money in an 31,688 years.

We are borrowing money at compound interest and giving it away. Redistributing wealth we don't even have.
What we do still have are some valuable resources, albeit dwindling. Dwindling because we are also giving those away. Russia gets our uranium. Nestles is draining our Great Lakes for pennies on the gallon only to turn around and sell our water at a premium. Saudi Arabia is buying up our farmland and drilling deep wells that are draining our aquifers.
We are done.

Now overlay a graph of the national debt, tax increases, and hundreds of thousands of pages of government regulations and you have your answer.
