The only polls that matter are the ones held on Election Day. And on those, Ambassador Haley was a complete flop and was totally rejected by a better than 4-1 margin. Of course that was only with Republican voters, but I don't think she would do any better with Democrat Party voters

But trump is hugely popular among the base. A populist is always likely tp win the nomination.

On 13 July, when Trump was shot in the head in Butler, if he had stayed on the ground and withdrew from the race saying the "hell with this" figuring it was too violent, Haley might well have been nominated.

And she would be in a hopeless situation now. Trying to raise hundreds of millions of dollars, trying to win support from Trumpsters across the fruited plain, recruiting staff, etc , gaining the people trust.

It would have been an impossible task IMHO.
