Recently I have started calling them "Doomers", as in they are a new generation, "Baby Doomers". Who proclaim anything that they do not like is evil and destroying the planer. And many years ago I made the clear link between them and a religion. Almost everything they say, act, and behave exactly like some fundamentalist religious zealot, but aimed at "the environment" instead of a "god".
Proselytizing, demonizing and attacking anybody they think is not in full support of their beliefs, even attacking those they see as "apostates" and those that might actually agree with them but not in everything or in the same way.
In other words, almost the exact same thing as how Catholics and Protestants acted during the Thirty Years Wars.
And "Groupthink" is exactly right, right up there with "Doubletalk".
Myself, one of the things I laugh at is what happened to their predictions during COVID. And that is one of the "chickens coming home to roost" in the last few years. We all know what the lockdowns were like. CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions caused by humans plummeted because of travel restrictions, down over 14%. Yet, CO2 levels still climbed, rising 2.6 ppm during the same time human emissions were drastically reduced.
For a great many like me that believes that warming drives CO2 levels and not CO2 levels drives warming, this is a gigantic smoking gun the size of an M65 cannon. And add into that that in the 5 years since COVID, emissions have started to creep up again, but CO2 is still rising significantly faster than the human emissions can explain.
This is just one of many reasons why the IPCC and other agencies have started to lose confidence in the "models". When you make such a drastic change in what is claimed to be the cause of warming and the exact opposite result occurs, then the entire model and hypothesis needs to be either discarded or seriously reworked.
Yet, these "scientists" have done neither. In fact, they are doubling down and screaming the same thing even harder. Never mind that those of us that were at least teenagers in the last decade should be well aware that the facts are not matching their claims anymore.
But when you belong to a doomer cult, you have to push the narrative no matter what.
