Because in the case of plastic, you have to actualy do something, make an effort, and spend money. In the case of CO2 fraud, all you have to do is write articles and shout at rallies. And collect money to “save the Earth.”

Only problem is, nobody wants it in their backyard.

That's not the only problem. They are great for base-loading electric grids but not great for adjusting loads quickly or at least not as good as other sources like gas fired plants. And they can't just be switched off instantly. Other than that they are great. And if America really wants to wean itself from fossil fuels, they are the only viable replacement. With that said, we are still going to need fossil fuels to generate electricity due to their ability to adjust for changing loads.
