Why do you support liberalism?

Nope... and they never do.

If you're ever bored shitless and just want to run out an experiment. Go through the other boards and search for similar topics... Where Conservatives.. (Americans) are asked to define themselves, one will find dozens of Americans defining their beliefs; who they are, what they stand for...

As is the case on this board, and in ALL of the threads of a similar nature... the Left canot define itself, they cannot tell you what they believe or why.

And why is that? Several reasons; they're scared to death of pissing off one of their little clique-mates... they're desperate need for popularity... they're ignorance, severely limited intelligence...

They are the least capable minds in any group.

that is simply not true. I support liberalism because I applaud the successes it has acheived in the past century. I applaud women's suffrage, and child labor laws, and labor unions, and workplace safety laws, and a progressive income tax system, and the forty hour work week, and civil rights, and social security and medicare and medicaid, and environmental protection, and minimum wage, and I further support liberalism's efforts to promote marriage equality, and women's rights. I believe that those successes and those goals have and will make America a better country.

I further believe that history clearly shows that conservatives will never stop the march of progressive liberalism... they may slow it down, but they will never stop it and they will never ever reverse it. Things that were anathema to conservatives a century ago are now accepted by conservatives today... as evidenced by the sign held up at a tea party rally last summer, "Keep your socialist hands off my medicare" Can you imagine any conservative advocating a return to a system where children were not required to go to school and employers could hire young children for meager wages to work long hours in factories? Can you imagine a conservative today advocating taking the vote away from women? Can you imagine a conservative today advocating the abolishment of social security? Can you imagine a conservative today advocating the outlawing of labor unions?

Well said Maineman anddddd.....

No, I can NOT EVEN IMAGINE this great country of ours, without its progress from liberalism/liberals!

(what a great winter and Spring up here this year, eh...maineman?!!!!)

Care... I don't think I can EVER refer to any winter in Maine as being "great", but I will agree that this spring has been glorious so far.

Thanks for the compliment, but I KNOW you could have written something quite similar. ;)

really?

Well to me, when January came in 6 degrees warmer than normal, then February came in 6 degrees above normal average temperature and then March and April to follow, 6 degrees above normal....

I'd call that a pretty damn good winter!

So is your claim that somehow conservatives are for small limited government??

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Somehow?

If someone actually Realized what Conservative stands for then yes..

So far, The Republican Party doesn't represent those ideals.

I don't get why you're laughing.

I'm laughing because we have yet to have a Conservative balance the budget or reduce the size or scope of Government.

Now you get to play your "republicans are not conservative enough" card

I agree. Just shows that the Republican party is in the shit hole.

There's a card for that? :eusa_eh:

I just have grown to hate all Maine winters regardless of their severity or lack thereof.

That is why we are planning to move to Merida, Mexico next year as soon as our daughter graduates from college.:eusa_pray:

Why do so may, especially those in the GOP and the Tea Party movement, equate working on solutions to major problems as "government control?"

Do you not agree that there are issues that, if not addressed, will completely cripple this country? Do you honestly think a resolution to those problems can be found any where else but in Congress?

I agree with you that had we done things differently over the past 30 years we would not be facing these problems. That has absolutely nothing to do with where we now are! We've made a ton of mistakes in the past! Now, we either let those mistakes wreck us, or we act like grownups and work to correct 'em.

What problems has the government ever fixed?

- Uncontrolled pollution of our air and water supplies
- Workplace safety
- Discrimination against blacks, minorities, women, gays
- Interstate transportation
- Nationwide communications
- labor abuses
- Food safety

and thousands of others

this is just the kind of guy Im talking about when I refer to liberals............NEVER, EVER see the necessary tradeoffs. ALWYAS see government involvement as a zero sum game.

So allow me to educate, not those beyond help, but the curious looking in on these threads who maybe dont see the necessary tradoffs of government loving lefties belief in the righteousness of THEIR public policy.................

- Uncontrolled pollution of our air and water supplies regulations cause industry to go oversea's AND result in layoffs due to higer operating costs
- Workplace safety = much is embellished nonsense at a cost of jobs
- Discrimination against blacks, minorities, women, gays government went to excess in an effort to gain permanent votes...........let to reverse discrimination in business now and things like welfare = societal disasters such spectacular increases in illigitimate births in black women ( up 60% between 1959 and 1980 )
- Interstate transportation forces industry to abide by governmental standards/regulations - higher costs of goods to consumers
- Nationwide communications nobody cares
- labor abuses = leads to unions that produce substandard quality of goods and services and MUCH higher local taxes for communities over time
- Food safety mostly bogus and invariably excessive.........political ploys to pullo n the stupid of society........ leads to higher food prices

indeed..........there are thousands of other examples.

Must remember.........liberals dont think on the margin. Conservatives do.........public policy is always viewed by the liberal as government involvement = a zero sum game.....or no negative tradeoffs.

class dismissed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Has anyone even answered your question???? I see a bunch of people go off on tangents about classic liberalism and quotes from other people but I haven't actually seen one specific thing that a person said they like about it. I thought it was an easy question but apparently not. sheesh..

Nope... and they never do.

All of these initiatives were fought against by the conservatives of the day. All were looked at as bad for business...bad for America.....a road towards socialism...will lead to the economic collapse of the country

Conservatives still sing the same tune today

you can hold whatever opinion you like, as long as you keep auto-depositing my retirement check every month. I'll take those tax dollars and spend them outside the country and love every minute of it.... plus, you should know that I will always vote for progressive liberal democratic candidates via absentee ballot, so my vote will always count against you!

I knew there was epic stupidity about to ensure in this post, but nothing could have prepared me for this. I actually almost sharted (if you don't know what it is urbandictionary it) myself sitting in bed laughing out loud to this post (you know hilarity is about to ensue when someone from my generation takes the time to write "laughing out loud").

Let's start on this educational tour kids:
- Uncontrolled pollution of our air and water supplies regulations cause industry to go oversea's AND result in layoffs due to higer operating costs

Oh, god forbid we all just contract diseases and get sick because we want to keep business here. I'm sure that wouldn't overburden the already struggling healthcare system. Also, I mean i won't go into the thousands of historical examples of corporate fuckupery, it only takes a few recent events to show the necessity of regulation.

I mean really, these people used to build buildings with asbestos, and told scientists they didnt know what they were talking about when they said it would kill them. Hmmmm........sounds kinds of familiar , we all see how asbestos poisoning turned out.

- Workplace safety = much is embellished nonsense at a cost of jobs

LOLOL. Read the Jungle

- Discrimination against blacks, minorities, women, gays government went to excess in an effort to gain permanent votes...........let to reverse discrimination in business now and things like welfare = societal disasters such spectacular increases in illigitimate births in black women ( up 60% between 1959 and 1980 )

Yea, despite the fact that from 1960-2010 there have been more "conservative" presidencies than liberal democratic in terms of beliefs and party affiliations, but ok, that's liberalisms fault :cuckoo:.

- Interstate transportation forces industry to abide by governmental standards/regulations - higher costs of goods to consumers
....really? You have a problem with the government running the interstate system?

- Nationwide communications nobody cares

Except that all of our money, security, and political system rests on a nationwide communication infrastructure that's shoddy at best, shitty to the fourth degree at worst. When the cyber attack that is guaranteed to happen occurs, i'm sure no one will care, I know I wont, but thats because all my shit is secure and encrypted :).

- labor abuses = leads to unions that produce substandard quality of goods and services and MUCH higher local taxes for communities over time

So....we should just allow bosses to beat their workers to increase efficiency?

That sure works for the chinese don't it? It's funny how you propose a solution that communists (the ultimate of the leftists) advocate in your defense of conservatism. Lol, again, now it becomes more clear why the sharting occurred.

Yea, from the above, you live on the margin of complete ******* insanity and contradiction. it's awesome, I hope one day I meet you in real life so I can shake your hand and possibly gain some of that blissful ignorance.

Without Liberals we'd still be under the British. Conservatives, anti-change, were royalists.

FALSE: The Tories were the today Liberals of that day, when the word Liberal had a different meaning exactly the opposite of what is has today. The Whigs in England were the Conservatives of today and they supported our independence, or at least our fair treatment at the hands of the Lib-Tory party in England.

This problem arises out of the proclivity of "Liberals" to change their name constantly and even steal the good names of other groups in order to cover their evil purposes. They STOLE the name Liberal and used it like wolves in sheep's clothing to deceive and destroy.

Now that they have dirtied the word Liberal, they are now abandoning it, and again changing their name to another stolen name, this time, "Progressive.":cuckoo:

like I said...........its a zero sum game ALL THE TIME for the lefty. Tradeoffs are meaningless!! The modern liberal see's regulation as a no-brainer postive for all Americans.........
Like the coming debate about Crap and Tax........the liberal doesnt give a flying fcukk about hundreds of thouasands of miners who stand to lose their jobs if this total BS legislation is passed. To them its, "Fcukk you..........you lose!!!!". The lefty balance sheet looks like this: 600,000 jobs gained in a green economy PLUS saving our planet = worth 2.4 million people losing their jobs. Why? Because the ONLY thing important to the modern liberal is making sure the capitalist is fcukked!!!!

What are you talking about? What kind of left leaning person first of all? I'm left of center on some issues, but I don't understand how you can see for more than 50% of the political spectrum, it's a zero sum game.

Do you realize that it doesn't even matter what my opinion is on that, that's historically provable as a lie?

as for your fail example, first of all, if we were in a more dire situation where we KNEW cap and trade would save our planet, of course we would value that over jobs ass, if we lose the planet NO ONE HAS A JOB. What the **** kind of priorities do you have, "Oh we've gotta make certain the miners can work while their homes are overrun by flood waters from melting glaciers and the ozone layer burns away."

I'm not even a believer in immediate extinction through global warming, but I am a believer in the national interests, and this would create jobs, but more importantly it would improve efficiency, reducing the need for the AMOUNT of jobs and reduce our dependence on Arabic oil. Cap and trade isn't the only way to get there, but the partisanship prevents true discussion from occurring within our nation.

The problem with this question is many Conservatives consider anyone who disagrees with them as Liberal, which is a big lie. To the far right there is black and white. Gray is Liberal.

Truth is black and white... Rationalizations are gray...

Thus the Right, of which there is no Moderate or Extreme variety... is truth; the Left is deceit and fraudulent rationalizations.

Dogmatic views such as this has cause world wars. Basically you are saying, "if you agree with me, fine. If you don't you are wrong and will always be wrong." That is why you Baggers have to depend on sping and lies. You cannot moderate your voice, because there will always be someone in your ranks who sees such moderation as weakness.

it is for that reason that, if the GOP continues to bow to the Bagger's wishes, the GOP will be irrelevent. You will see it begin to unfold in the fall and by next year the GOP will be strapped with division due to their allegence to the tea Baggers.

Let's get some facts straight: Half of Liberals are Liberals because of ignorance, the other half are just plain totally evil, but very smart. So that is the line up in the Democrat Party. If it is just a matter of ignorance then we should try to educate, if it is a matter of evil we need to drive such Demoncrats into the ground like a wooden stake, until no one can see their head protruding. Fill their mouths with dirt, and they can't lie any more that is for sure.

You just may be one of the ignorant ones. If so, you can learn, learn, learn, and here is where you can start:

Understand: EVERYONE is in favor of a clean environment, EVERYONE. Question is, who pays for it to get done? I don't want America to be the only one paying, and destroying our economy , to prevent pollution, while the stinking Third World like China, India, Indonesia, etc, etc, etc, are spewing poison toxics into the air, products we buy from them, land and water, and refuse to stop. They are out-competing our industries and taking our jobs, precisely BECAUSE they refuse to put in place any clean measures.

Until EVERY SINGLE NATION ON EARTH agrees to binding verified clean ups, with stiff punishments including military action, we should do nothing. Stinking Democrats want us to clean up while they protect the stinking third world spewing dirt. Put that in your brain if your problem is you just don't know any better.
