Zone1 why do some Protestants think that only they are Christians and the Catholics are not?

.

Pretty sad.

My late husband's entire education, K-12, was at the hands of nuns, brothers and priests, and he never had a bad experience with any of them.

I know a couple of the people that teach religious education in my church -- the nearest Catholic school is 25 miles from us -- and one of them is a very loving man whom the kids all look up to. He has taught me a very moving and inspiring lesson about developing my relationship with Christ.

One very good friend is also a religious ed teacher who has two daughters who are nuns, whom I've met briefly and have found to be very gentle and loving people.

If Catholic upbringing is flawed, I wonder why we have one couple who live up to block, who have been married for 70 years. The section where I usually sit in church sometimes is occupied by four generations of the same family.

Our local Knights of Columbus just raised $6K for mothers in need. Just one of their many yearly fund raisers.

I'm satisfied with my concept of Catholics.

.
You could say the same thing about the Mormons.
But they are still a religious cult.

Sometimes a Priest would came to our classroom and teach us about the Catholic religion.
Then 1 day a week all the students went to the Catholic church located next to the school and attended a church service.
.

My husband spent every day of his school years, being taught by nuns, brothers and priests.

And it's called "Mass". Protestants call it a church service.

another question

have you ever been to a Mass for Corpus Christi day? 😊🌹

i am asking because nobody said so in the thread about it. 😒😔
.

I went to Mass this year but live in a small parish and since it's not a Holy Day of Obligation, it was not attended well and there was no procession. I attended last year in a nearby parish and it was wonderful, but they had no procession this year. One day, I want to attend at the Cathedral in Sioux Falls, sure to be an experience. I was confirmed there on Easter Vigil and it was the best experience of my life.

"why do some Protestants think that only they are Christians and the Catholics are not?"

The "Pope", idols, many past false teachings (purgatory, etc.), prayers for the dead, persecutions, frequent crimes at the highest levels and general "worldliness" probably count significantly for how Protestants could feel that way, though the majority certainly do not.

What does "Zebra" disagree with; that most Protestants don't feel that way?

Most christians are raised with a very "us vs them" mentality. It's one of the huge problems with organized religion in general.
True. The real controversy is between the 'churched' and the 'unchurched'.

When I was a kid we moved to a small town and the only school was a Catholic school.
So I attended it and learned Catholic theology with the Nun's smacking the back of your hand with a ruler if you misbehaved.
I was glad when we finally moved and I went to public school.
How old are you? I'm plenty old, went to Catholic school and this never happened to anyone.

I am born in 1946... and it did not happen here either.

btw .... in Germany schools are not segregated according to religion.

The norm is the state school, where all religions .... and those who belong to no religion .... are together. 👍

it seems that in the US the term Christian often means Protestant only

and excludes Catholics

why is that so?
Due to tribalism, there will always be some who believe they and they alone have the answers while no one else does. You could ask the same question of Catholics:

Why do some Catholics think that only they are Christians and the Protestants are not?

I don't really see that here either, Zebra. Some people within those churches evidently think that their sect or denomination of Christianity is the more perfect one, though. I have no personal investment in the matter.
