They still have a strong base, but they can't compete in the long run.

It comes down to 4 issues that turn the middle on them:
(1) Healthcare: I get it single payer and government run health insurance we 'hear' is a disaster, yet European countries will not do away with it any time soon. However you never get a plan other than status quo. I hear the sell across state lines bullshit, but those insurers have to follow state law and I guarantee this added competition wouldn't change a thing, but it is a great talking point. Second you hear health savings accounts. Which are already hear and while good aren't even close to the answer. Obaminationcare is bad but it at least go rid of the insurer practice of pre-existing condition riders (meaning once your sick no one would insure you), drop you after you get sick and skyrocket rates after you get sick. Obaminationcare is bad, but status quo was horrible also. Conservatives lose many middle class voters on this issue, because they never present any real plan.

(2) Abortion: You used to be able to hold the stance, ban on later term abortions and no abortions after 1 trimester except for rape, incest or mother's life is in danger. Now during the primaries the only acceptable stance is "no abortion, no exceptions. Not for rape or incest victims, not if the fetus has birth defects, not for teenagers and some won't even allow if the mother's life is in danger. Sorry but this turns off many independents and women.

(3) Higher Education: Most jobs require a college degree. The few that don't are lower paying and in shrinking industries, such as manufacturing. The fact of the matter is higher education cost upwards of $120k. Young people start their lives in a boatload of debt. These are voters who hear one side at least talk about trying to forgive debt, help pay for it and lower rates.

Then you have the GOP who complain about what the colleges charge and basically stop there. They wouldn't pass the bill to lower interest rates. While there are good arguments why they did that. Voters with student loan debt only saw that republicans voted against saving students money.

As Republicans continue to lose on this issue, they continue to create New Democrats.

(4) Gun control: Every mass shooting you hear, don't blame guns blame the perpetrators. True on many cases, but in reality many in the middle want a balance between gun ownership and safety.

Until Republicans start finding a way to solve these issues for the masses they won't compete I the swing states and further red states will turn blue like VA, CO and NV. Right now the only way for Trump to win is if he turns 1 of 2 left leaning state (PA or MI) and wins FL or OH.

Blast me if you want, but these are the 4 issues that the GOP needs to get serious about if they don't want to go the way of the Whigs.

Hey clueless hack!

Who has control of the House and Senate? Who has the most state governors?

How are you that stupid and still able to use technology to broadcast your stupidity?

Basically, I think that's right. I differ a bit on education. It's true that the gop is searching for policy, but throwing money at it is not a policy either, and that's the dem response. We have kids at community colleges taking out loans and not bothering to do the work, because they have absolutely no intention of paying the money back. Just giving them the money solves nothing. And for the kids who did get degrees that are worth the paper, and who are paying the loans ... the dem's play sucks. And, btw, that's how the gop beats the dems on any issue. The dems consistently reward bad behavior: welfare for example.

Abortion is a no brainer. The consensus by the maj has been consistent for at least 16 years. Why the gop chooses to swim against the stream is a mystery. Well it's no mystery. The party chooses the 1% financial interests over the middle class, and offers social wedge issues to quiet the masses.

We lose when we go "repeal and replace" instead of having a better policy in the first place, but any policy requires the govt to do something ... which is against the1%'s financial interests.

I'm not sure the 2nd Amend is really costing the gop many votes. We've won the war, and Heller is not going to be overturned. The reality now is that restrictions on ownership are a state and even local issue, that has to pass judicial review under Heller

The problem I have with your comments is you have not sourced ONCE the facts to substantiate your comments.
Here are the facts about Healthcare.
1) 90% of physicians say they order duplicate tests, specialists referrals..at a cost of over $850 billion a year!
http://www.jacksonhealthcare.com/media/8968/defensivemedicine_ebook_final.pdf
$850 BILLION a year in wasted expenses. Almost ALL paid by health insurance companies and Medicare.
Yet when you look at the results of the above survey, only 48% of the responding government physicians said they practiced defensive medicine versus 92% of non-government physicians. Why? 1946 Federal Tort Reform Act that forbids federally contracted doctors from being sued.
Solution? Tax the lawyers' $270 billion a year income (like Obamacare taxes tanning salons!!!) and use that to pay premiums for the truly 5 million uninsured.
Using a plan no one has heard of "America's Uninsured Health Ins. Co." (AUHIC) where the truly 5 million going to a physician/hospital are means tested to see
if they qualify. Because 10 million of Obama's 46 million uninsured which was used to pass Obamacare are NOT citizens Link: http://www.census.gov/newsroom/releases/archives/income_wealth/cb10-144.html!
Because 14 million before Obamacare were qualified for Medicaid...they just didn't know it!! Link http://coverageforall.org/pdf/BC-BS_Uninsured-America.pdf
Because 18 million under 34 making over $50k don't want or need health insurance. http://coverageforall.org/pdf/BC-BS_Uninsured-America.pdf
That leaves 5 million that would be covered by the $27 billion tax on lawyers.

Two things happen then!
1) Insurance companies/medicare/medicaid won't be paying $850 billion in defensive medicine claims... premiums go down!
2) The truly 5 million uninsured would then be covered. Hospitals wouldn't be charging $10 for aspirins to cover the $84 billion a year in unreimbursed expenses covered
by charging as this hospital CEO when asked "How do hospitals deal with the cost of the uninsured? "Like any business, we pass it on to the paying customers".

So AUHIC is a plan. Is it doable? Not with a President who is a lawyer nor 47% of Congress being lawyers. But with Trump??? Most Likely!

I don't think 2 and 4 are a slam dunk for democrats.

The reason 2 hurts the right is because hardcore promoters do not believe in a compromise on the abortion issue. It is either a total ban, or a fight for a total.

4 it is hard to say we don't have gun control when we do have gun controo. Also, Democrats fail to explain how the new laws they propose 1) leave the rights of regular citizens unabridged and 2) keep guns out of the hands of lawbreakers. The best plausible I heard only will prevent guns from falling into the hands of mental patients. But that only curtails a very small percentage of mass shootings. Democrats do not seem to have an effective plan either.

By the way, the issue should not be called gun control since the focus is on criminals obtain guns. It does not matter how many gun nor what kind of firearms a person owns if he is a law abiding citizen.
It just does not matter, so stop arguing like it does.

I agree on the second amend issue. And, I agree that on abortion some people believe there should be absolutely no restriction on abortions, and those folks vote dem. But the dems get those votes even when they accept restrictions that the vast maj support, like no partial birth and parental or judicial ok for minors to get abortions. Yet, for some reason, the gop cannot compromise on stuff like morning after medication being routinely available. We are held hostage by a minority who view a zygot as having a right. I do not understand why that has to be.

Getting insurance after you get in a car crash would do what to insurance companies? obamacare can't work, it's impossible. The problem was too much government intervention, more government was the exact wrong answer.

Not what I heard at all. Opinions varied, only a few or one that I recall said no abortions period. Get your ears cleaned.

Many trades do not require college and you'd be better off at a trade school. something Europe has been light years ahead of. Instead US students go 60k in debt with little to no real prospects to utilize it.
Then you have the GOP who complain about what the colleges charge and basically stop there. They wouldn't pass the bill to lower interest rates. While there are good arguments why they did that. Voters with student loan debt only saw that republicans voted against saving students money.
Government loans is what jacked up tuition. Imagine if the government guaranteed auto loans. That was the Republican's fault?
As Republicans continue to lose on this issue, they continue to create New Democrats.
Lying leftist smear mongers create more of the same. Again, not the republican's fault.
(4) Gun control: Every mass shooting you hear, don't blame guns blame the perpetrators. True on many cases, but in reality many in the middle want a balance between gun ownership and safety.

Gun control has proven to be a big loser for leftist so I'm happy they embrace it with such fervor. Normal people know nut cases and criminals don't obey the laws.

Yeah, I think issue (1) is inevitable and it's a losing issue for the GOP. No one wants to go back to pre-Obamacare and no one wants to keep with it. Inevitably we will end up at a single payer system simply because folks won't be able to afford healthcare at all. If you're lucky, people will vote for pro-Single payer healthcare, if we're not lucky, people will be more proactive in their demands.

(2) is essentially done also. The consensus has become pretty solid that folks don't like abortion, but don't see it as their place to ban it. You've got some hardcore folks that think outlawing it will solve all the problems. They clearly didn't learn from Prohibition.

(3) is actually tougher. We need to respect trade jobs more and send more kids to trade school.

(4) is the toughest one. In a very real way the problem is too big now for laws to solve it. Even if you outlawed the manufacture of guns entirely there's enough in the market we'd have problems for a century afterwards. Going door to door to take guns won't solve the problem either. I think the only solution now is to have compulsory gun ownership and training like some countries do or to jack up the penalty for committing a crime with a gun to insane levels.

The GOP is going the way of the Whigs.

The GOP IS the party of the Whigs.

The only reason that the GOP is predominant in certain states is because of its inherent racism and its local hot button propaganda, such as religious issues, rural issues, and tax cuts for the rich.

Barry Goldwater's John Birch Society is dying out and the GOP is dying out with it.

In the short term, however, hopefully the GOP can hang onto the Senate to be able to thwart what is coming from Hillary for the SCOTUS.

In the long term, whatever evolves to take the place of the GOP is hard to foresee.

You had me until the gun issue.

There is nothing more to be done because we have a whole bunch of idiots in this country who do not realize that the current laws are not being enforced and that the new proposals are not going to help anything.

When you can fix Democrat stupidity and media lying about gun issues then we can discuss it.

The GOP IS the party of the Whigs.
You dont know what the Whigs represented and you obviously dont have any clue why the GOP emerged.

But since when has being an uninformed idiot ever stopped you Democrats from bloviating your shit all over the place regardless?

Yeah, I think issue (1) is inevitable and it's a losing issue for the GOP. No one wants to go back to pre-Obamacare
Most people still don't want it so the rest of your post isn't worth reading.
Pre-Obamacare sucked. Obamacare sucks. The GOP doesn't have a plan other than Pre-Obamacare. I don't see avoiding a single payer system for long especially when most other first world nations manage it.

The dems consistently reward bad behavior: welfare for example.
Many look at it, less from a justice point of view and more from a compassion point of view. When the GOP punishes bad behavior it is usually the innocent children caught in the middle that suffer.

I had a feeling that after reading the O/P, right wingers would concentrate on their "precious" 2nd Amendment rights....

Somehow, conservatives "think" that when we discuss gun control, it means that we on the left want to abolish ownership of ALL guns....which is simply a moronic argument.....What we on the left want is for the banning of sales on MILITARY style weaponry that is NOT really for hunting (unless you want instant chopped deer meat) or for target shooting (most targets would be obliterated by the barrage of bullets).......NO, right wingers are still "dreaming" of defending themselves with such military weapons from their own government's military takeover.

Just simply the argument that only a moron would make.....and heaven knows that most morons are also right wingers.

When you can fix Democrat stupidity and media lying about gun issues then we can discuss it.

Same old bullshit and FOX inspired nonsense...."democrats are stupid" and the "media is against us".....(with the obvious candid admission that FOX is NOT media)........

Just a preemptive excuse as to why right wingers will lose this November, and lose with historical numbers, thanks to the Trumpeters.

The dems consistently reward bad behavior: welfare for example.

I don't see the compassion towards children in continuing policies that rewards unwed teenagers from getting more money for each fatherless child they produce.
