It is the world preppers want to live in....Every man for himself

Rather than getting with neighbors and pooling their resources, their post apocalyptic world revolves around chasing away your former friends

Reminds me of an episode of the Twilight Zone

NAW , get with your neighbors is the best plan if they understand . Theres been lots of that kind of neighborly co-operation talk in this thread Rightwinger . Course it needs to be Voluntary co operation .

Dont be a dumbass. I think it's been made pretty clear you need to have a minimum of 6 preferably 8 people in order to protect your assets.
Nobody is saying they would go it alone....except you.

six or eight?

What a despicable world you want to live in as groups of six or eight fight for available resources

In my world we group together, evaluate available resources and decide how to use them for the best

good to have the Freedom to do as you like I guess .

In your world you'd have to look for resources. In my world I already have them and protecting them from morons like you who didnt prepare is the objective.

And how do you plan on obtaining those resources? You going to suck dicks for a bag of flour? Take it up the ass for a round of antibiotics?

You'd be dead inside of a month....

What society? The majority would be dead. The whole idea of getting together with a group of like minded people is to survive the initial mass die off. Cities would run out of food in a week, the killing for a can of beans would follow shortly thereafter.

If you can live through that? YOU ARE SOCIETY!!!

You certainly have zero idea about what FEMA teaches if that is your view.

Just a quick question...those without weapons are "useless"....right? That would mean that Cletus has guns. What if Cletus doesn't feel like being replaced just yet.

----

Every successful response (including the real world ones I have taken part in) has had an incident commander directing the effort. Can you do it with several centers of power wasting resources and duplicating effort? No. Because both are in short supply during an emergency.

Anyway, the question was what would you do if faced with someone knocking on the door after a collapse. Can we assume we can put you in the "I've got mine, you get yours" column?

"Can you do it with several centers of power wasting resources and duplicating effort? No. Because both are in short supply during an emergency."

I think a few families can manage to survive without "wasting resources". Perhaps the smaller scale defies you? I doubt we need an incident commander to handle the resources we have. Each family group has their stores. We cooperate on what needs to be done as a group.

Sure...and when there is a disagreement?

Lets call them option "A" and "B". Those in the Option "A" camp think there should be action taken and those in the Option "B" camp feel that no action should be taken to let the woman and her 10 year old daughter into the compound.

Here is what happens. Those in the "A" camp open their doors to the girl, those in the "B" camp begin to shun the other group. This is the seeds of the breakdown. Lets say they were sharing fuel...oh oh. Suddenly the "B" group thinks that the woman and daughter are using too much fuel. So the supply line to "A" is cut. Or they were sharing patrolling duties (you can't your guard down for a second I tells ya!!!)...the "B" group patroller begins to explain the crazy math that these two extra mouths will doom them all. You think the "A" group dude is going to sit there and listen to it?

The idea of cooperation is fine as long as there are no variables and nothing unexpected happens.

Guess what...

The unexpected always happens.

Just an anecdote; during TS Allison in Houston in 2003 I think it was, the authorities relied on a media helicopter to take a transplanted organ to the Texas Medical Center because their air wing was over-run with rescues and search duties.

I'm sure if the preppers had the chopper the response would have been that the patient should have taken better care of their kidneys or something as equally compassionate.

I have already stated that I have no control over what anyone else does with their home or their resources. I have not claimed there is any sort of "compound", simply a group of friends & neighbors agreeing to band together in the event of a catastrophic breakdown.

Also, the events surrounding TS Allison would not qualify as what I described above.

In that event, I and my fellow "redneck preppers" would be on the front lines helping people. I have continued to state that I am willing to help as long as I am able to do so with out endangering my family. You choose to ignore what I say when it does not fit with the image you wish to denegrate. In the immediate aftermath of the tornado in Tuscaloosa, I was there with a chainsaw, truck and coolers loaded with cold water and sandwiches. When I worked storm damage after Katrina, Rita, and Sandy, we would often help people who needed it. During the snows in January in Atlanta, I helped numerous people. The reason I did so? They needed help and I was able. No more than that.

So please feel free to continue to paint us however you choose. But when you lie about what I have said I will do, I will correct you.

So what you are saying is that if preppers don't share their resources with those who did not help prepare, they are selfish and will be shunned. But the society you rebuild will not share its resources with the preppers because they didn't help?

If you don't see the hypocrisy there, you need to rethink it.

I have to chuckle at the doomsday preppers. Those that I've seen are young or middle-aged. They build bunkers in the back of their property and claim that they will be ready when the next world war breaks out.
What they don't get is that if the nukes were to actually start flying, they would have, if living anywhere remotely close to a city that is a target, at most, 20 minutes, most likely less, to get to their bunker. If they're retired and at home, that's fine. However, I suspect the vast majority of them have jobs and the optimum time to send nukes our way would be at the peak hour of work, to maximize casualties.
So, if they can't get through gridlocked traffic (all fuitily trying to escape) in considerably less than 20 minutes, that bunker was a waste of money.

I live in Atlanta. My property is in Alabama. Yes, if there is a nuclear attack I will not make it in time to survive.

So in the event of all out nuclear war, I am unprepared. Of course, in the event of all out nuclear war none of us will survive unless you have access to a massive bunker buried deep underground and enough supplies to last you decades.

Wow, so since I can't survive an all out nuclear war I shouldn't prepare for anything other than retirement? Because we all know that nuclear war is the only way society will collapse.

Humans form societies. That is what made us the most dominant species on earth. Your bunker mentality and selfish behavior would not be welcome in an emerging society.
Those who are able to work with others to help the whole will create larger groups and ultimately drive you out

You make the mistake of assuming it'll be a nuke that takes us out.
It could be a financial collapse,an EMP from a terrorist country or from the sun.
Thats like saying you wont carry a spare tire for your car because it may be a broken fan belt thats the problem.:cuckoo:

There wouldnt be a society you dumbass. Those who survive would be the ones left to try and rebuild...but you wouldnt have to worry about that being dead and all.

First of all, every prepper here has talked about having people cooperate to survive.

Second, drive us out of where? Our own property?

Third, why is it selfish of me to want to use the resources I have carefully set aside to protect my family? But somehow it is not selfish of you to demand access to them on threat of exclusion from the new world you will be building?

Of course there would
That is what humans do. Isolated groups will reform into larger societies. Those most efficient in consolidating scarce resources will thrive. Those who insist on isolation will perish

Not sure you'll ever convince RW that sitting around singing Kumbaya isnt the most sensible way to survive.

Yes, eventually we will reform into larger groups. All of us will rebuild.
