Zone1 What's the longest you have gone without calling in sick at work?

Let's look at work ethics.

I know I had a run when I went eight years (prior to retirement) without calling in sick....Just really never got sick enough to call in. :dunno:

I bet I have enough fingers to count the days I called in sick and would have some fingers left over.

I guess I remembered an old coworker who once said of those who were always calling in sick......Too much sickness and not enough death. ;)

How about you?

I haven't taken a sick day in over 10 years.

I know someone who has you all beat, his name is (was) Gene Pickett. I started working my old job in 1994 and in 1996 he was celebrating his 50th anniversary on the job. First time i met him he was sitting in a locker room (they had one when I started and was soon removed) and was rubbing Ben Gay on his knees. A man of small stature, and very soft spoken and kind. The story many told me is he only called in sick once in 50 years, and multiple people are not going to all tell the same lie. His wife a bank president and he owned many acres of farmland,

He didn't even need the money.

Sounds like my dad. I remember only once where he missed work and that's after he was brought home by coworkers and tossed into bed.

Is that what the Article 15 said? ...

Can tell you weren't a squid...

... We called them "Captain's Mast".

You spend 20 years in and never stand in front of the man, you ain't do'n your job.

(And the Charges were dismissed.)

Teachers take a LOT of days off. I know teachers with as much experience as me who use all their sick days every year. I don't. I call off when I'm sick, though. I don't go in sick anymore. The job is too difficult now.

One more thing--I have a pair of autoimmune diseases and had the mentality of above for years and years. Thus, I was sick, kept going to work, which just made me sicker, and ended up hospitalized and off work for many months, for two school years in a row. I refuse to do that again. It's a bad plan long term.

In the UK and Germany, if you are on holiday and get sick, your employer will credit you holiday days and swap them over to sick days.

At my last employer, I had 2 weeks off due to German measles and one day for being physically sick. That was over a 15 year period. Over the last 20 years of self employment, doesn't kinda apply.

We get 12 sick days per year. Some teachers take all their days every year. I have a chronic health condition and lost all my days in 2010. Even so, I have three months of sick days banked. So in short, do I call out? Yes, when I need to, but not for stupid reasons

Back when I worked for the state the absolutely true joke was you never bothered calling Richmond about anything on the first Friday of a new month.....The state employees there would always call-in and burn-up the sick time they earned.

Getting the lessons ready for a substitute teacher is often time consuming enough for some teachers to heave a sigh and decide they'll just come in themselves.
