But - my overriding concern is if and when a democrat wins the WH and controls the house and has a Senate majority. If they change the Senate rules to abolish the filibuster then they can pretty much do as they please and that is when America turns into a one-party gov't. IMHO, if and when that happens we are fucked.

I want a president who will put forth a plan (that most won't like) to drive down the deficit and start to decrease the debt. We are headed to 40 trillion. We are numb to it, but when it bites.....we are so dead.

Agreed. But we are so addicted to overspending that it's hard to see that changing until we hit the wall. Maybe at some point enough voters will realize that the current path is unsustainable and we'll elect somebody that will do something about it. It could be that things will have to turn to shit first though, as inflation and interest rates go way up, a lot worse than 9% YoY. But that hole we're digging now is likely to get a lot deeper first.

Because of Dobbs Republicans will never have a 60 vote advantage in the Senate even though lightly populated states get two Senators and California Illinois Pennsylvania and New York get two.

You would think that fiscal responsibility would be a key issue, and it is for some. Like me. But you don't win elections promising to cut benefits. The GOP does spend less than the democrats want to, which I believe is one reason why the deficits under Trump were more than desired cuz they had to spend more to get the democrats on-board. I don't know which is worse, agreeing to spend more than you wanted to get something done, or letting the gov't shut down.

Biden will hit a 2.5 Trillion dollar deficit this year alone. 10 years ago, that was grounds for being shot.

I think that any repub president that has a GOP Congress (both Houses) still has to get democrat support unless he has a Senate supermajority (60 votes). Which no GOP has enjoyed for quite some time, if ever. So, if the prez wants to get any legislation passed, he has to work with and appease the democrats and that means spending more than he wanted to. Every.single.time. There has never been a time when the democrats have ever wanted to spend less money than the repubs on any appropriations bill.
