What does Juneteenth mean to you?

What does it mean to me?:

1. An opportunity for Federalist scum to turn the screw of their victory over States-Rights supporters.
2. The humor of my employer having to give us an eleventh paid holiday (something they claimed they’d never do) so they can look like they care about DEI.
3. Not having to take another day of PTO after my cataract surgery.

Its been a thing in Texas since I can remember. The US? No. That would be the day the 13th was ratified or something.

True. It was a thing when I lived down there for 25 years.

It must have followed me up here to Wisconsin.

I think that the freedom of any people from institutionalized slavery should be celebrated, at least by those people. But others might want to celebrate freedom for all by recognizing the importance of freedom for some.
It is not a coincidence that Juneteenth was made a Federal holiday in the aftermath of the George Floyd riots.

It is not a coincidence that Juneteenth was made a Federal holiday in the aftermath of the George Floyd riots.

The George Floyd riots started on May 26, 2020 and went on until May 26, 2021.

President Biden made Juneteenth a federal holiday. He signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law on June 17, 2021.

Totally not a coincidence. Nothing to see here. The idea that President Biden threw the entire US Black population a bone, is nothing but a conspiracy theory.

It's not true.

I mean it.

I really mean it.

I really, really mean it this time.
