What are really the objectives of a convention?

I mean this sincerely and I'm not too sure that the Dems. convention will be much better.....

However, I was indeed looking forward to this GOP convention to better learn HOW the Trump candidacy movement was going to specifically address:

1, How all those oversea jobs were going to repatriate to the US

2. How under a Trump presidency, ISIS was going to be obliterated

3. How Obamacare was going to be repudiated and replaced with.........?

I know that the convention in Cleveland is not yet over.......but can anyone fill me in on how the above 3 objectives have so far been addressed?

This was a point of discussion on NPR today and their conclusion was that it was simply a media event.

Not really good for anything else.
