We'll know by end of the week.

So you are saying the lack of demand will drop my food prices, huh? Good for me I guess.
Likely not.

Production costs don't go down just b/c there is less demand.

Honestly, it sort of shocks me that this isn't the most discussed issue on this site right now. The establishment is doing a terrific job at distracting the nation with other stuff.
“the Establishment”?

No, Trump is spinning half a dozed platescright now.

He’s in no hurry to return to DC and address the crisis.

But he does have time to preen over his Ballroom.

And gin up stories about his retribution efforts.

Well, holding the line on 1.3 trillion dollars of spending that gives free healthcare to illegal aliens seems like a good place to start cutting back.

You Trumpsters cling hard to that overtly racist lie!

Lots of talk about premium increases if republicans refuse to extend subsidies. Many seem to think the increases won't be much of a problem, and the subsidies are just there to fund healthcare for illegals anyway. November 1 is the start of signup time, and each individual will see their personal cost of not extending the subsidies. I suspect one side or the other will regret the stance they have taken on the subject..

of course costs will go up when the subsidies go away. My question is, if the ACA was supposed to help people get medical insurance, why are we already needing more subsidies? Was the ACA not very good to begin with?

He is the man who the GOP is waiting on.
The GOP is waiting on the democrats to pass the clean CR so that some real work can be accomplished on the budget---something we haven't seen from the democrats in the last eight years of their nonstop obstructionism--Run along globalist POS.

Looks like 20 million folks will either have their rates go up significantly, or will just go w/o medical care.

"As the federal government nears a shutdown, a central issue in the government funding fight is health care costs. Premium tax credits (PTCs) help lower the cost of comprehensive insurance coverage for more than 20 million people who buy health insurance on their own through the Affordable Care Act marketplaces. However, the enhanced level of financial support that has been in place since 2021 will expire at the end of this year, and Congress passed up multiple opportunities to extend it as part of the Big Beautiful Bill signed into law in July. Unless Congress approves legislation on the enhanced subsidies, millions of Americans will face higher costs as a result. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office projects that about 4 million more Americans will be uninsured by 2034 if enhanced PTCs are not renewed. . . "
Why do we need new subsidies in excess of Democrats original subsidies?

And in 10 years will we need MORE subsidies on top of these extra subsidies on top of the original subsidies???

You are correct. The pandemic is over. There’s no need for the supplemental funding.
That is apparently the position of the administration and those who control congress. Thus the government shutdown.

I can't say I disagree. I just wanted to post that information so that there can be a constructive discussion, so folks on the left and right know what we are all talking about.

If you got something cheaper and better like trump promised, then show it.

Yes, the subsidies are a large part of the discussion. Democrats agreed to pass the legislation when subsidies are extended. You didn't know that?

Why did they initially put a sunset provision in them when they passed these subsidies in 2021?

Furthermore, if the Affordable Care Act is affordable, why does it need to be subsidized?
