Trump about to cave: Democrats headed to total victory on Obamacare Subsidies!

Great idea! We did think of than 30 years ago. But, its a good idea.

So, price controls? I gotta say, thay doesnt seem like a typically conservative idea, either. At least, not in this country. Will the GOP now be open to it?

Conservatives in the other, normal, modern, liberal democracies dont have a problem with price controls and single payer.
No, you idiot. Not price controls. Doing things which actually work on reducing health care costs for everyone, including Big Health Insurance, providers, and Big Pharma. Letting health care costs be high and then stiffing them on the payments is not the answer.

Like what, professor?

Please, regale us with the ideas you have. As if youre the first to try.

Good luck.

And, go.

We need to find out why:

1. Education costs so much to become a doctor

2. Why that MRI machine costs so much

3. Why does research cost so much?

4. We need to have TORT reform. Huge court wins paying out tens of millions of dollars or even hundreds of millions of dollars is over the top. Who do you think pays those judgements? Hint: It is not doctors. It is not insurance companies. It is paid for by rising health care costs, health insurance premiums, and malpractice insurance premiums - which are all passed down to YOU and ME. WE pay them through rising health care costs, which you just want to charge off to the national debt.

And a million other questions. We don't even try to find out the answers.

Okay, I like it, but some of these companies sell the same goods across the pond for a profit at a lower price. So maybe it's not just the costs driving up prices...?

Private insurance companies inserting a profit motive... that definitely contributes to higher prices.

Maximizing short term shareholder gains.. also contributes.

Education costs: we like to subsidized the demand side instead of the supply side. This helps to drive up costs.

Americans get screwed in the process of providing cheaper costs to other countries. There should be laws in place where other countries aren't getting the cheaper prices because Americans are subsidizing those country's costs. Let them pay the higher or equal prices so we can pay less. America first!

We have health insurance companies providing health insurance in the US. That can't really be changed. You just can't put a huge segment of our economy out of business by eliminating it. And, as businesses, health insurance companies deserve to make a profit. That's called capitalisim.

Don't know what to say about shareholder gains. As businesses, shareholders should expect to earn as much profit as possible, within reason. I'm open to suggestions on this. But, government run healthcare is not the solution. Government run anything is not the solution.

There have got to be ways to make it so medical profession education doesn't cost so much. We need to think outside the box. Leftists only think that the solution to everything is to just make the outside of the boxes smaller while the inside of the box remains the same or gets larger.

The only way to actually cut health care costs down is to work with Big Health Insurance, Big Pharma, and providers to see what we can do to lower THEIR costs instead of just calling them the enemy and trying to stiff payments made to them.

Because those countries have price controls, and we don't.

So what you are suggesting is price controls.

No. I am not suggesting price controls. The fact remains, several costs in other countries are cheaper because Americans subsidize the cost of other countries. We are actually paying for their lower costs. These companies cannot afford to sell a drug for X amount in another country and that same X amount here in the US. We pay outrageous prices here in this country so that the drug companies can afford to sell those same drugs cheaper in other countries. That needs to stop.

For example, drug A costs $1000 per month in the US and $100 per month in some other country. The drug companies can't afford to sell that drug to everyone everywhere in the world for $100 per month. So, they offset the cheaper prices in other countries by selling that drug for a higher price in the US because we're stupid. Now, what I'm saying, is that if you really want price controls, then let's sell that drug to everyone everywhere in the world for $500 per month, both here in the US and abroad. It's about time we stopped subsidizing the world's costs out of American's pockets.

Then you are suggesting unicorns with magic wands.

Because what you describe is a price control.
The drug companies can't afford to sell that drug to everyone everywhere in the world for $100 per month.
Hmm, I bet they could.

And yes, writing a law that says they have to charge $500 overseas is, indeed, a price control.

And since those countries have their own price controls, it is also a pipe dream. Not achievable.

the Democrats pulled off a masterstroke in this healthcare tug-of-war

You were saying that if they can sell the drug for $100 overseas then you favor price controls over here fixing that price at $100 here too. Can't happen. And, we can't really have price controls either abroad or in the US.

Well, you kind of made up the number part. But I see no argument to rule it out.

Lets see the numbers from the companies. They should have to defend their insane prices.

Their insane prices allow them to subsidize health care in other countries, something the US should NOT be doing.

Yes, I have seen that claim

What i have not seen is the evidence it is true.

A more accurate description is we are being gouged, because we are a stupid country that allows it.
